Drug Bust in PEK..Started in GRU

A man has been detained in PEK after attempting to smuggle drugs into HKG through the Chinese capital's hub.

Authorities are regarding the incident as one of the most audacious attempts of its kind.
On Tuesday last week, the 63 year-old attempted to traffic 24.6 kg of cocaine to HKG from GRU, the Beijing Times reported on Thursday. According to the report, this was the largest amount of cocaine the custom officers had ever seized at the airport.

The Hong Kong resident, known only by his surname, Huang, had a large incentive: free flights from a friend and HK$30,000, to transport the two suitcases over from GRU. The report said that Huang told police that he was unaware that he was carrying narcotics.
From GRU, the gem trader headed to MAD, where he transferred to PEK, with plans to end up in HKG.

This is not the first incident surrounding drug smuggling at Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok airport in recent weeks.
On August 13, 60kg of cocaine was smuggled from GRU via a 22 year-old Russian woman and a 35 year-old Hong Kong traveller. The two were separately arrested, and travelled on the route that Huang had intended to use.
