San Juan june 23-26 hotel, trip advice?

My boyfriend and I are going to San Juan on June 23-26th and we need some advice were to stay, what to do etc. We're both in our early 20's flying delta direct to san juan from atl. I'm not really into historic things, just want to relax , get some good food and get away for a bit. Maybe see the rainforest?

What's your price range? We stayed at the HYATT on DORADO beach which is about some half hour drive on the main highway going west of San Juan. Dorado beach area is pretty pricey and where all the resorts are. You can stay near the airport at ISLA VERDE area, check on line for hotels near there. You can tour the rainforest, check out EL MORRO fort, SAN CRISTOBAL fort, you can check out OLD SAN JUAN, very beautiful. Lots of things to do in Puerto Rico. Rent a car and go around the island. You might want to check out the Paradors if you are into economy travel. I don't think they'll have all the amenities of resorts. They refer to them as "country inns".

Welcome to The Nonrev Network.

I'm glad you liked that. I believe that they have these in Spain as well. Coyne tells about them in her Spain article at <a href="http://nonrev.net/articles/spain/index.htm" target="_blank">http://nonrev.net/articles/spain/index.htm</A> and there is a link to the Spain Paradore site from there.

I love to stay in places like this that are unique to the area. I think you get a better chance of actually experiencing the culture of the place that your visiting - at least a lot more than if you just stay at a big chain place or US based resort.

You might enjoy www.ricksteves.com . You can also stay in convents in Italy or in Light House Inns around the US. And of course there's hostelling - a whole different style of travel with it's unique challenges and rewards.
