Man, it's amazing that they lasted as long as they did under NW. Guess it helps that they were owned and paid off, last I remember. So long, ol' friends. My flightmemory log from the NW days is a little fuzzy beyond where I went, but I know I had a few (at least 4) flights on those birds!
Interesting to note that Delta was I believe the launch customer for the DC9. Delta put a few hours/miles on the airframe and sold them to Southern Airways which merged with North Central Air Lines and Hughes Airwest to become Republic Airlines. Then Northwest merged (bought out) Republic and then Northwest was merged with Delta and what do know the DC9s came home to roost. So now they are heading for the Arizona desert or perhaps some South American or African country.
