I believe DL has flown JFK-FLL for a long time. Looks like just the equipment is changing.

Yeah, just today they have a 757, MD88, and 737 on that route. Plus more flights from LGA.

From what I read in the several forums that I browse - NRSA is not an exact science especially Friday; Saturday; Sunday & Monday the main traffic days of the cruise traffic thru the Port of Miami.
Going early and being prepared to stay a day or two later is recommended or buy a revenue confirmed ticket or other transportation i.e. Amtrak.
Even the smallest cruise ships hold 15 times what the average airplane does. Then multiply the number of cruise ships sailing into and out of Miami daily and on the weekends can be as much as a
10 to 15 - this presents a daunting task of finding space avail. A few of the behemoth ships can carry 5000 passengers at a time. Impressive numbers that do a real good number on standby traffic.
So what are you going to do - think of alternate cities FLL for MIA (and the reverse) MCO for TPA and see what surface transportation is workable.
It is getting worse every year - planning is no longer an option or a lost art - it is what makes a vacation of any length doable and affordable.
Just to give you an idea of the odds that you are working against this is the table of ship info for NCL (Norwegian Cruise Lines):
Note not all these are active at Miami - and there are several other cruise lines - noteworthy Carnival (includes Cunard; Princess; Holland-America; et-al - - - ) Celebrity and others...
So get out your Ouija Boards and Darts to compute the percentages !
At least in the original post a flight was not taken away altogether reducing the odds.
