I'm thinking about heading to Paris for New Years Eve, I'll be doing some sight seeing during the day but need some ideas on what to do on New Years Eve that can be done on a whim, do they have a place like times square, fireworks? Is there something the Parisians do to mark the being of a new year?

Bonjour,
The Parisian meet themselves on Champs Elysées for 12 blow of midnight with bottle of champagne. http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/roflmao.gif
You can book a table to dine in a famous restaurant, many establishments propose menus of Bew Years Eve (indeed to study the prices! http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif). A cruising diner on the Seine can be also very pleasant. http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk...artysmiley.gif
I inquire if festivities are scheduled in the chateau of Versaille.
A bientôt
