I hope this isn't a tired subject..ZED fares!
I am going to travel JFKCAIJFK in FEB. I see that we have ZED agreements with several carriers. For example, JFKCDGCAI/AF, JFKAMMCAI/RJ,and JFKAMSCAI/KLM. These are ZH fares for me. Can I pick any entry point from JFK with the same ticket? Do I understand ZED fares are sort of generic? Is there a written explanation of how they work some where on GOZED or elsewhere? I would like to prevent purchasing a ton of back-ups. Can anyone help? Thanks

I'm afraid that if you want to be certain of using the ticket you need to get one for each route. Although the fares for specific distance ranges are fixed the ticket still need to have a routing on it. A lot depends upon how your carrier issues the tickets, if they endorse it to each carrier on the route then you only need the one ticket for that route otherwise you will need to have one ticket for each carrier. The underlying principle is that the carrier with whom you travel is only guaranteed to get the money on the ticket if their carrier code is mentioned on the ticket. If this is not the case then you are reliant on the check-in agents decision as to if they will accept the ticket .. there is no requirement for you to be accepted. Hopefully the ZED group will modify this to just allow an open mileage ticket now more and more carriers are signing up but at the moment you are stuck with getting multiple tickets.
There is some info on ZED at the Alaskan site ..http://www.alaskasworld.com/NEWS/2005/05/12_zed.asp
