I am contemplating trying to non-rev to Italy this August from DFW. Any suggestions or warnings would be appreciated? I am a solo traveller, flyiing out on the 9th and returning on the 22nd of August. I am a little flexible on days.
Cheapest "full-fare" I've found is jfk-dub-cia $748.00 roundtrip on Aer Lingus/Ryan Air. Have to purchase this one by March 21st!
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
depends on your interline agreement and who u can take. If u can take AF/AZ/LH then I would definatly do it if it saves me more than 50%.

We have agreements with AF/LH. Any suggestions on best routings to get to Italy in August?
I would definately fly non-rev on this route if my trip isn't time sensitive. Leaving from JFK you can get 8 flights using AF and LH. The inter-europe flights are almost always empty so I wouldn't even worry about that part. Only problem with AF though is that they charge non-revs the fuel surcharge which is about $50-$55 each way.
A bit of an exageration to say intra-european flights are always empty. Its a matter of the day of the week, time of day, special events etc. However, depending on the city you're flying into, and I think you want to get to Rome, there's a high frequency of flights per day, spaced at max two hour intervals, so chances of getting on one are much higher. That said, ex Frankfurt to Rome, or Milan, best bets are first or last flight out during mid week, Tue to Thur. Mid afternoon flights also usually leave with room. If you're thinking about smaller cities such as Florence or Verona, as these are serviced by small regional jets, summer travel can be tight. Plus the added disadvantage of just two or three flights per day. Your main challenge in Aug would be getting back and forth across the pond.
yeah i wouldn't worry too much about the flights within europe. i would much more worry about the flights across the atlanic, as its high season,even if there are several options with lh/af it might get tough.but if you are flexible you should get on one of those flights. maybe you have an agreement also with az, which also departs from terminal 1 in jfk also there is os and in general with an ticket issued on lh you shouldn't have a problem getting on an os flight, wich also departs terminal 1, so you don't have to change terminals in jfk which it might make a little bit easier...
Thanks to all of you who responded, it really helps, as this will be my first time trying to non-rev "across the pond". From your posts I take it JFK is my best bet to get across for the frequency of flights. In looking at our agreements, AF is ID75, LH is ID90, and no agreements with AZ. Anybody ever gotten out from dfw-lgw across on American during August? Longshot I know but have to ask.
Is AerLingus in the same terminal at JFK as AF/LH? Thanks for your help!
