We plan on using our Frequent Flier miles to get to Italy on Oct 1 (Not non rev). I make a terrible passenger http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif. Does anyone have any inside knowledge on how to get an upgrade to Business or First Class? I always take candy to the Flight Crew. Any suggestions! Thanks
Mileage Tickets are not upgradeable to Business Elite. You can ask the F/A once on board but the ticket counter and gate agents wont be able to help you. Delta has now implemented a "Verified Ticketing" application which audits every ticketing function we do so it is getting harder and harder on us to offer "waivers and favors" and comp upgrades unless it is something that falls within published guidelines.

I hate to tell you this but DL FA's should not be giving even Delta employees seats up front when flying on FF tkts.
I know some DL FA's that do all they can for fellow DL employees and OAL employees. Why not?

Well, I am using my skymiles to purchase a ticket in coach for Xmiles. Or I'm using 2X miles to purchase one in business class.
WHY, INDEED, should the other person be allowed to sit next to me, when I PAID for my seat with twice as many miles?? This is a NO-NO.
I earned those miles and in sepnding twice as many, I earned that seat.
Would I expect to get upgraded to BUSiness class on Greyhound, oops, I mean SouthWest when I fly to Europe--oops, they don't FLY there...

Do you think you are responding to a Southwest Airlines Employee? I really don't understand why you are so angry. Besides, not everyone on the plane pays the same price for their tickets. Some pay full price, some get deep discounts. But still they sit next to each other on the same plane, is that wrong?

PagoFlyer--would you feel the same if you used hard-earned miles--this issue is regarding frequent flyer award seats--maybe you didn't understand--that's what my objection is about. It's not a paid revenue ticket.
The inequity is that soemone who is an airline employee (A) uses FF miles for coach seat. Employee B cannot get coach seat on FF miles so they have to use DOUBLE miles. Empl A expects to be upgraded to sit next to Empl B.
It is a no-no and against policy. Same for any empl being able to buy/confirm seat, then canceling and using pass travel instead, if loads look good.
It's cheating and yes, I am angry that you and SWA LUV to FLY (sorry, however, that I mistook you for a South West employee---DOH!My error.)thinks that's ok. It isn't.
This is a forum and I am entitled to my opinion. I said nothing deragatory about either of you other than your actions and/or sugeestions. You are entitled to your opinion, too. I'm glad you responded. Your response shows your maturity. Thanks again.
PS--Pago Flyer--you asked--what are you supposed to do? If you're a Delta empoyee, you keep quiet about your seat, take a deep breath and be grateful you have a seat (we all know how hard it is to non-rev!)and a job paid for by the revenue pax next to you.

Sitting next to a full paying pax is irrelevant. Part of the benefit of being an airline employee is being able to ride on the plane free, and if one is upgraded, that means nobody that is paying full fare is getting bumped from first class. This just means there are empty seats up front that a non-rev can ride in. I am an aircraft technician and without me, NOBODY FLIES. I'll ground this plane in a heart beat if I so choose. Just because you don't wish to sit next to someone because you used free sky miles doesn't mean you have ultimate authorization as to whom sits next to you. Did you buy that seat next to you? Get a grip. If someone is on FF tickets and the flight attendant upgrades them, you should be happy for them. This means that after everyone has been accomodated appropriately and there are seats up front, why not fill the empty space? Are you the one serving them drinks? Worry about yourself, not everyone else unless they send you back to coach in their place, then you have a gripe.

Bravo 29palms--you got most of it right and, of course, no one goes anywhere if you ground the plane, but no one goes if there is no airline. Conversely, if there are no pax paying for airline, no job for technicians, support staff, etc. I am not allowed to be upgraded on my airline if I purchase a seat with FF miles--plain and simple. The original question is why should another airline employee be upgraded on a FF ticket to business/first just because they work for any airline and they got a coach ticket w/FF miles? They should not be given any seat in that cabin when an employee of that airline is not allowed to be upgraded on the basis of the same FF seat purchase.
Ps--which airline allows you to fly free? Wanna get married?
By the way--where have I ever said I don't want to sit next to a full-paying passenger? You're confusing otehrs' statements. You need to get a grip on my comments if you're to reply. I want full-paying pax! Not OAL employees who think they are entitled to something employees are not. Thanks for keeping us in the air.
After ten years of company service, I pay zip! Before that, it was like a few bucks depending on where you flew to. Check with your airline. You put the time, you may qualify to fly free.
I guess I was thinking about fees/taxes since most of our travel is international. With 20 yrs time in and so many RJs out of CVG, domestic travel is still more difficult than intnl--most of our flights aren't "free" . If I go over my 18 TO allotment then there's a flat rate--haven't done that yet, but I got close! But, you're right--there's no actual charge for the flights here, either. But when you get $130 deducted for ATL/JNB that's a hefty "cost".
I hope this works out for you, one way or another... But I for one dislike when somebody puts me on the spot and asks me to bend the rules to help them out... Won't happen. Sorry... No way am I taking a chance on losing my job for something like this. :huh:

I know this comment is rather old. I was surfing and reading old stuff.
I wonder why you felt the need to make that dig on Southwest Airlines? Why would you deliberately diss another airline knowing full well there are employees on this site that work for Southwest Airlines? What was your purpose?

"Never Tell Anyone my background" That is the smartest thread I have heard in a long time. I recently travelled on positive space business and a couple of my co-workers WORE THEIR BADGES! Doesn;t seem smart to tell everyone who you are, especially since we are told to: "Fly like any other passenger". I think it is stupid to blow one's cover.... but even more so if the person is flying space-available:)
WN save my trip numerous times, the employees I dealt with on the phone or at the ATO were always wonderful. In addition, their aircrafts are nice and confortable. I will fly this airline agian with no hesitation

First Delta a Employee does not fly using FF miles. After 30 days of employment we are able to fly.
I have had GREAT luck on Delta with upgrades! I always bring a nice little bag of goodies (As MANY DL and other airline employees will bring the same to us onboard) I fill it with magazines/candy/etc - Usually if there is an empty seat they will move me once we get going. I love flying DL overseas - flawless service from the 10 or so (international) trips I've made on them.
Wow I just realized this post is VERY old! At any rate ...the "greyhound" of the skies is still making profits...expanding markets ...and my pay keeps going up (its actually doubled since I started in 2002 as a flight attendant!) So i'll take the "greyhound no first class etc etc" shots others like to diss out!
Respect goes a long way :)
