All of the major chains have locations in Liverpool ( i.e. Radisson, Marriott, Hilton etc ) and normally offer a 50% discount. With discount you are looking at about GBP60 a night. Its probably cheaper out on the Wirral but it really depends what you are going to do as to which is the better location ... the Wirral or Scouseland central !!
You may get a better rate at one of the smaller independant hotels.

I agree! Earlier this week I picked up 2 nights in Central London for 26 quid per night on the UK Travelodge website. I've never seen rooms in London for that low a price in all the years I've been going there - even the plethora of B&B style hotels around Victoria and Paddington and South Kens/Earls Court areas are usually 40-50 pound per night.
They have nights as low as 15 quid from what I can see, but obviously the earlier you book the better. The 15/26/49 pound saver-rates are also prepay only.
Sure - it's only a Travelodge (UK version) so nothing to write home about, but you know what you are getting and the standard is better than the unknown quality/value of the traditional cheaper options of the B&B style hotels. You know the ones - the ones with shoeboxes for the "en-suite", a single bed only crammed on the wall and 4 paces from wall to wall. http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
