Can anyone recommend inexpensive accommodations in London? My son will be there 1 night and needs the least expensive, decent place he can stay (preferably close to Gatwick).

Hi Donna,
Hopefully you'll get some current replies but I'd also do a search on "London". There are quite a few previous posts.
Donna,
What date are we talking about??
I searched for London posts and most involving accommodations were quite old. He will be in London on May 19th for about 12 hours on his way back from Morocco. Any suggestions are appreciated since his original plan was to simply go to the city for a while then spend the night in the airport!
Donna,
You could try http://www.lowfieldfarm.co.uk/
They advertise in our inhouse paper.
The rate seems good for the Gatwick area but I don't know much about the place.
Donna - try the U.K. version of Travelodge. (travelodge.co.uk)
They often have "saver" room prices that are fantastic for London pricing - more so in advance. I picked up a property of theirs in central London for 19 UK pounds as example.
For the night you are looking, they are showing a property in Croydon (on the direct rail line from Gatwick) for 29 pounds that night. It's outer London, but easily and quickly accessible to both Gatwick and Victoria Station in Central London. Also a heck of a lot cheaper using the local rail, rather than the Gatwick Express.
It's a Travelodge, so no Ritz, but decent & clean enough for a "bed for the night" without the high prices.
Another option is to head south on the direct rail line from Gatwick to Brighton - not as expensive as London, but probably more reasonably priced B&B style options abound.
Hi Donna,
Al's right in saying that Travelodge can have some good deals but you need to book at least 21 days out to be in with a chance of the GBP 19 per night rate. GBP 29 for Croydon isn't too bad but be aware that the rail fare to/from LGW will be about GBP 5 each way.
Even with the cost of the rail ticket, this still falls within his budgeted amount for the night. Thank you both for your suggestions. I'll shoot him an email right away!
If this comes up again, both London international airports have capsule hotels on property. Yotel is the name. You pay by the hour. 4 hour minimum, I think. Beats sleeping in a chair. Yotel and CitizenM are in the Amsterdam airport as well, FYI. I like CitizenM slightly better.

Was looking for a place at LGW... thanks!
Hey Man, I hope you find some accomodations. I found a really good hotel room similar to Motel 6 . . . it is called Hotel Formule 1. It ran about 44 a night (EUR). I think the bathrooms and showers are down the hallway. But it was pretty good for the money! I normally always stay in hostels and book on hostelworld.com! Good Luck...

several airlines get 25-75% off the level from Novotel-Pullman prices--I've been able to get better than Formulae prices using the codes.
(I'l share them if you're nice!--hahahaa--JK--search here and you'll find them--good all over the world Space avail of course)
