I am 25 and I will be travelling with my boyfriend. I just love the idea of visiting castles and cathedrals which from looking is very plentiful in Prague. Wow I'm glad I'm talking to an expert! We are going to be there a full week but are debating a side trip to Berlin if the train tickets aren't too pricey. Do you know the best way to buy train tickets? Is it better to buy online or when we get there and if online what website is best? Thanx!

A great side trip would be Cesky Krumlov 0vernight--medieval town, riverbend, sometimes you can get boat trip to get there.Or the Melk (sp?) monastery. Sister went and LOVED both.

One trick to know is that if you don't want to buy the expensive ticket/pass for the castle combined tour, just go to St. Vitus Cathedral (same complex) and it's FREE and magnificent! Do not miss it or St Nicholas.
I can recommend a great walk, too. Tram to the funicular, up the funicular, pass the tower (you can go up but no lift) walk aorund above the old vineyards and end up nr monastery and museums (we never go in) and head for castle. you can spend hours walking around the gardens and winding around if you stop to refuel at the cafes--PILSNER!! Dumplings!!
Check tripadvisor.com for the train to Berlin--I'm thinking it's 5-7 hrs?

Since im going to Prague in early September do you know what the weather will be like? What kind of clothes should I bring? Is it too cold for sandals?
If you're talking walking sandals like Tevas, probably comfy enough. Wunderground.com is best good weather site. I wouldn't wear dress sandals for evening. I doubt it will be cold, but there have been storms lately (last wk) I find a pashmina shawl is great for plane and walking.
How are your dates/flts looking?
Well the number of nonrevs have kept changing throughout the week. It still looks pretty good, but I guess I just have to wait till closer to see what its really gonna look like especially after Fridays flight

Some people may show/no show based on how many emps are listed. It's a judgment call we all have to make, hoping for no "surprises".

My wife and I just got back from Prague (5 nights) and Cesky Krumlov. We stayed at Sir Toby's hostel in Prague and Hostel 99 in Cesky. We stayed in double rooms with in suite baths for roughly $50 per night. The Bueno room in Sir Toby's is excellent, nice bed, quiet, and clean. The Room in Cesky was along the river, but the bed wasn't so great.
Try to avoid eating in Prague's old square. We ate at Czech restaurants around Sir Toby's and they were great. Dinner for 2 with two beers each was about $25 to $30.
If you go to Cesky Krumlov (and I recommend it highly) take the bus and book it in advance. We took trains both way and it was all good...except for having to transfer to and from a bus to bypass construction.
You might want to consider going to Kunta Hora. It isn't everyday that you can see thousands of bones on display in a couple hundred year old church. It is an hour by train...at least it is supposed to be. The return trip's train was 1.5 hours late.
Re clothes and the weather- I gotta say that it was pretty chilly (we were in the Czech Rep Sep1 to Sep 8). I only wore my tevas once, and I can handle chilly weather.
Re beer- I was a big fan of Pilsner Urquell, but I thought that it was pretty weak compared to Gambrinus and some others.

Hubby has had odd weather over the past few weeks--3 visits in 5 wks and the rain has effected 2 adversely. I wonder what he'll have this Sunday...no matter, I guess, it's PRAGUE!!Thanks for the info on Toby's--still haven't done Kutna Hora--"Bones" is on TV here....HAHA
