Have not stayed at this one, BUT it gets high marks and you can email them direct for off-season, initerline deal:
The College Hotel
it was offered on Luxurylink but is off sale at this date
I'd look at tripadvisor.com for apt rental referrals, too
Don't forget, they have lots of accor hotels for DL emps
I was in Amsterdam recently and we stayed at the Etap hotel as well as the Amsterdam Tulip Inn at Dam Square. The Etap hotel was 60 euros per night including a continental breakfast. It is a basic hotel, but very clean and near the airport. It is a 20 minute train ride from the airport to Amsterdam, and the hotel has a free shuttle to the airport. If you are in Amsterdam over the weekend, you can buy a train pass for 15 euros which covers you to travel from the Airport to Amsterdam Centraal from Friday to Sunday. The Amsterdam Tulip hotel in Dam Square was good and clean, however ran between 100 euros to 180 euros per night. You will find that hotel rooms in Amsterdam are rather small compared to other countries, but it is all part of the charm! We had a great time just walking around, and for sure it is a must to go to the Anne Frank museum!
If you go to Amsterdam make sure you try one of the Indonesian Restaurants, they are great and the prices not too expensive.
Have fun in Amsterdam.
Thanks everybody, I've taken notes...
Check out the Industry rates for the Accor and Golden Tulip chains at their AMS hotels.
I found a great place I would use in a heartbeat!! Pretty intriguing...
Accor/Sofitel runs it and it can be had on DL emp rate for under $150 night space avail
The Convent

They also offer the Mercure Arthur Frommer which is highly desirable on accor discount
We had a great visit...left AMS Sunday, they must have started the new TSA procedures that day....pretty gross...I've never had a guy touch me like that...my wife has never had a woman go over her like that either. No more common sense with the TSA...pretty sad..
Pago, I'm sorry that you did not care for the extra security measures that are now in place. I'm sure you would be sorry if someone took your plane down. AMS is where the failed attempt departed last Christmas (Yes, I know the terrorist connected flights). This is the world we live in today. Do I wish it was like it was 20 years ago? Yes, but that's not the reality. If a passenger does not wish to go through the imaging scanner or the enhanced pat-down, they have a third option.... Turn around and exit the airport. I have no issue with thousands of people being unhappy with this situation as long as it prevents the deaths of fellow travelers. However, I do agree with the pilots that they should not be subject to this, as they are already on the flight deck and can carry a gun. NOTHING will prevent a pilot from bringing down a plane if he/she wants to. End of rant.
Pago--I'd like to hear about the hotel, since that was the original subject.
But I gotta put my 2 cents in and agree with scotfitz, considering the situation. Pago, I'm not so sure you'd like to hear the news that your family or friends blew up on the next flight from AMS (or anywhere in the world), would you? Just becuase someone didn't feel around the guy's crotch or a woman's boobs where the explosives were hidden? Get over it or don't fly.
I was once connecting in CDG (pre-9/11) with my mother (70-something then) when French security agent stuck her hands inside my mother's bra and down her pants!! She was grey-haired old broad with US passport and sporting 2 teflon hip joints--c'mon--what's with THAT??) She had a pacemaker alert card and we expected some physical patdown. We had to go a private room, wait for female agent, then she did THAT? We nearly missed the flight; Mom was crying and my Dad (always the stoic one) was not so HAPPY...
Aside from my little rant--where did you stay and how was the trip?
maybe some levity on the subject will help:
Rocky Flats Gear protect your heath, privacy and dignity.
paraphrasing the PA from the flight deck:
"Passengers prepare for crotch-check prior to departure and flight attendants check your drawers"
