Nonrev Alert: New E-Visa Requirments for IST

Holidaymakers may be refused entry to Turkey if they are not aware of new online visa rules, Abta warned today.
Visa-on-arrival arrangements are being abolished from April 10 and replaced by an e-visa application process.
Travellers will be required to purchase their entry visa via the Turkish government website evisa.gov.tr prior to travel from April 11.

An Abta spokesman said: “We have already informed our members about the need for consumers travelling to Turkey to apply online for a visa for travel after 10/4/14 and we will be reminding them again this week.

“Turkey is an extremely important destination for our members and we are concerned that consumers, particularly those who have not booked through Abta members, may not be aware of the new requirement and may as a consequence be refused entry to Turkey."

Thanks for the heads up! Going w/the chicks in May. Sure beats standing in line. Their format is simple and easy. (hey, Brazil--get a clue!) Maybe our gov should have hired their designers for a most infamous website.

Although we were one of the first in line due to being in BE, the line got very long after a bit.

I did it once a few years ago and it was good for a year, I believe. I'm OK with 90 days since Boss has option to fly bid IST w/great seniority [in season] I'd go back repeatedly, as long as I don't have to encounter the same Turkish policewoman who "frisked" me prior to departure...(search that one on nonrev.net for more info--female Rifki? Glad I didn't have to look for a hook on the door)

Got my visa a few weeks ago. It took all of 5 minutes; printed and I'm ready to go next week. Does anyone have any tips to share? We're doing most of teh major sights in our time allotted. Mostly plan to eat our way thru Istanbul. We even hired a guide for one day to explore some "hidden gem" cafes and check out street eats. You can get decent apts starting around $50 nt. Our faves range from $40pp/nt to $70 for splurge--some with private terraces...Many offer cash discount 5 or 10%. We're still undecided due to loads (repeating the NonRev Prayer) but our date of choice looks good. We'll see next week.
