I am new to this board and have read the articles, but I didn't see my particular issue.
I am my sister's registered guest for USAir. I have not attempted to Non-Rev since the introduction of the recent TSA requirments governing carry-on luggage. I used to always travel with one carry-on, but with the restriction on liquids (ie contact lens solution, etc) I would have to check my bags and I have been concerned that my luggage won't follow me - especially if I don't make a flight at the last minute. How do the airlines keep track?
Also, I used to pick random fun alternative destinations to list for from the hubs if my initial destination was oversold. (For example, couldn't make it to New Orleans, but Savanah, Georgia sounded fun ~ so I flew there instead.) Can I still do this?

Welcome to the board Shoefly. I will give you the current info but double check prior to day of travel as with TSA and Nonrevs policies change.
Recently the standby baggage policy on US Airways was changed. Now if the bag has a standby tag it goes on the flight unless there is a weight and balance problem. Therefore your bag now may get there before you do.
If you are going to be flexible in you destination, which you still are allowed to be as your Sister's Registered Companion, you may wish to dump liquids and gels from your carryon and go to a Walmart (since most are 24 hours) or drug store to pick up some small replacements when you get to your destination.
Don't let the new TSA rules stop you from enjoying the travel benifit your Sister has given you.
