so you can end up paying not ten percent of the current fare, but 10 percent of the highest fare of the season? .....so that means you could really end up paying almost double than the 'regular' passenger sitting next to you?????.....has anyone ever heard of this or is my interline department crazy?....I had lofty thoughts, like I could calculate 10 percent of the fare advertised and voila! my ID90 fare would appear.....oye ve....
It's not 10% of the highest fare but 10% of what is deemed to be the standard fare .. often .. but not always .. the highest.
If you want the good deals you'll have to get hubby to work for one of the bigger carriers who have more ZED agreements !!!

Generally speaking, the ID90 fare is 10% of full, unrestricted fare. Not full Y but the highest fare a revenue paying passenger would pay for a walk up ticket. In my experience, this usually shakes down to somewhere near 1/2 of the cheapest advance purchase you can get in most markets. Sometimes that works for you and sometimes it doesn't. As an example: I would never consider travelling nonrev between PHX and LAX because the fare is too cheap if you plan ahead BUT I would most definitely travel nonrev from PHX to LHR because I'm still paying considerably less than if I purchased a ticket with a lot more flexibility in my schedule. It's all personal preference. A little research goes a long way.

My trip is planned as:
NY to Manchester(uk)- July 19th (US Airways id90)
London to Bombay - July 31st (Alitalia ID90)
Bombay to NY - September 3rd (Alitalia ID90)
I am just a bit nervous because if it could work out to be more that would make the london to bombay, bombay to NY almost 10,000 dollars on Alitalia...they are pricing it for 'regular passengers at almost 7,000....I am just a bit confused.....
The joy have hearing different things from different people in the pass bureau....one says I have to pay in advance the other says I pay at the ticket counter on the day of the flight? which one is industry practice? If I pay at the ticket counter is there any chance that it would be cheaper at the counter and not the price my pass bureau quoted me?
I will submit the papers and see what they come back to me with....but based on the $180 dollar price they quoted me to go from NYC to DC I am not too hopeful....
Whether you pay in advance or pay on the day of travel will depend solely on your airline's agreement with AZ. Payment, however, is always made at the time the ticket is issued (I've never seen otherwise).
Most ID agreements (whether they be ZED or ID90) are self-ticketing, meaning the employing airline (your airline) issues the ticket for you to travel on the other airline's flights. In such cases, you would pay your airline to have the ticket issued. A few carriers have agreements that will allow the employee of another airline to walk up to its ticket counters to purchase a ticket for travle on its services. These are arranged primarily with airlines that do not interline passengers (e.g., B6 or WN). You would pay then. Again, at the time the ticket is issued.
Based on the fares published by these two airlines, I would guess your discounted fare would be somewhere around $1000, probably not more. Keep in mind that AZ does not operate LON-BOM-NYC, you will need to connect via MXP in both directions.

As mentionned you have to add the taxes and the
YQ for the international sector(for ID90, I think an additional $125 from India to the US).
The british taxes are tremendous now.

Definitely the taxes, generally not the YQ though.
