Hello all!
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on obtaining a passport. I've had friends that work at CVG say I can fly to a passport agency and with proof of an upcoming intl flt (within 14 days) and the required documentation, they will issue a passport the same day. Oh yeah and the fees!
Of course, I've also heard they used to do this but they don't anymore.
Someone please advise.....

Can your travels wait another 2 weeks? I just applied for mine this week. It's supposed to take up to 8 weeks, but the nice agent said right now most people are getting them back within 3-4 weeks. Getting the same day passport is quite expensive, getting one in 3 weeks was only $112 w/pictures.
You will need a letter from your Congressman, IF you want to go WITHOUT an appt.
However, you can get an appt thru the 800 line within that time frame. The best place to go is the DC office--it's a short metro ride and CVG nonrev is easiest with first am flight--last one iback s 5 something. The lines must be down to manageable length by now!! Most of waited 2-3 hours just to get in W/Letter. Then you wait some more. Pickups start around 3:30.
There is an excellent little Italian restaurant down the block (luigi's maybe?)--glassed entry--$10 lunch will make it worth the trip!!
I just did this a few months ago to get my extra pages required for a visa. Be aware that you will pay the $65 expedite fee ON TOP of the usual passport costs.
Also, recommend you get roundtrip fare paid in advance--I barely made the train and flight beacuase of some screw-ups by my Congressional office workers (who knew??). The metro station is only a few blocks from the passport office.

It is possible to do everything the same day at a passport agency, I have dealt with the one in MIA...it was a major hassle, get there for your appt and realize 50-60 other people have the same appt time...sit and wait, hurry up and wait...and then told to come back in a few hours to wait some more to get the passport...
I would say only pay the fees and deal with the lines if you have too, otherwise just go thru the normal process and get it in a few weeks...

Do you have a post office that handles passports? The one down my street does it. You need to have to passport photos made somewhere. The post office has the applications, you fill out the form, take the two passport photos, put them inside the envelope along with your filled out application and fees. Then you have the option to have it expedited for more money of course but you get it within two weeks or so. The slower way takes usually about a month. It depends on the luck of the draw to be honest with you. GO TO THE POST OFFICE.

The procedure is exactly the same, whether you do it at the post office or on your own. The only difference is that you can wait for an appointment there to have the forms checked for you. they approve and process nothing unless you are required to appear in person, then the post office swears to your appearance.
Just like 29 palms said--you complete the forms, you submit the forms for postage at the window and the application goes to the same place as everyone else's, unless you pay the expedite fee. If you want to bet your passport comes back in less than 2 wks, go ahead. I prefer better odds on the lottery!! Remember--this is a gov agency!!
Hey, don't know if you've figured out what to do yet or not. I actually got my passport in the mail today. It literally took about 18 days, and that's with the standard fees, no expedite.
Right now is the light season for applications, so get it sooner than later, it might suprise you how quick it could come.
