What's the longest trip you've made?

I was just thinking. I think the longest time I've spent getting from one place to another has to be when I went to DIEGO GARCIA in October of 1987. Here is how that trip went.
JAX-ATL-SFO-HKG-SINGAPORE-DIEGO GARCIA.
I had three nights in Singapore before I completed my last leg since SINGAPORE to DIEGO GARCIA had only one MAC flight per week going to that island in the middle of the Indian Ocean. But nonetheless, just getting to Singapore was a nightmare. MISERABLE. First off, it was a military contract so right there, that means NO FIRST CLASS. Add up the hours on each leg plus layovers and by the time I hit Singapore and layed in my hotel room , I was awake for well over 30 hours. The longest leg being at least 14 hours. So I calculate just flight time alone, Jax to Atlanta one hour, Atlanta to SFO at least six hours, SFO to HKG at least 14 hours, and to singapore from HKG another 5 hours. So I'm at 26 hours flying time ONLY not including layovers, so if you add the final leg three days later, its up to 31 hours of flying alone. Some other notable long trips I have made, and at times three or four or more of the same legs...you calculate those flight times.

Impressive! Mine is nowhere near that long, but considering the relatively short distance i was traveling it took forever.

I combined 2 trips into 1 last month. I touched the pyramids in CAI, and I climbed a volcano in UIO.

The longest trip within the trip was CAI-UIO. Departed CAI at noon, got to JFK at about 1830, hustled to hop a 1910 ATL, slept in concourse B in ATL, hopped a quick r/t(800 to 1400) to my brothers place in GPT to get a shower, departed ATL for UIO about 1700 and got to UIO around 2300.

Something like 41 hours.

The whole trip was MDT-ATL-JFK-CAI-JFK-ATL-GPT-ATL-UIO-ATL-GPT-ATL-MDT. The second time in GPT I spent a whole day.

Tiring but fun. The pyramids were nice, but I liked Quito better.

Like Nick, my longest trip had more to do with time spent traveling, rather than the distance traveled.

MSY-LAX - The Perfect Storm (mechanical, heavy loads and thunderstroms in Dallas)

MSY - read a book, a paper, had a very expensive bowl of gumbo, ate half the box of my "take home" pralines and after 5 hours brought a voodoo doll.

DFW - (evening) shared the rest of my pralines with my fellow stranded travelers, set up a cot, watched some kids have the grandest time crawling over and under chairs, heard a guy launch into a tirade against AA, the government and nictotine patches and came to the conclusion that bargain barrel voodoo dolls are&#39;t worth the money.

DFW - (Morning & afternnon) spend my time, people watching, (played spot the non-rev), browsed the stores, traipsed from gate to gate, road the train and watched rampers chasing a dog with a truck.

DFW - (evening) flinally got a flight out, got (first http://www.nonrev.net/forums/style_e...#>/biggrin.gif ) slept all the way.

ONT - LAX fogged in, flight diverted to ONT. Took bus to LAX, now resigned to my fate, fully expect to have a flat on my way home.

Home - I didn&#39;t have a flat, but I think it says a lot about this trip, that not having a flat was cause for celebration.

Haha well what do they say, when it rains, it pours! So everyone was stuck overnight in DFW? Did they bring out portable cots for everyone... i&#39;ve always wanted to see that. You can buy a stranded traveller kit in Skymall now, comes with tent, mattress, pillow, light etc and folds down to nothing. On yeah - everybody was stuck. You all are impressive...but, can I add to the OP&#39;s question with a little twist? What&#39;s the longest flight you&#39;ve ever taken WITH KIDS?

To answer the OP&#39;s question...

I think either Jeju-GMP xfer to ICN-NRT-LAX-DFW

OR DPS-HKG-LAX [and thanks to AA pilot&#39;s sick out] -DEN-DFW

OR DFW-ORD-BRU-MOW, return St. Petersburg-ORY-DFW

WITH KIDS...longest trips have been:

(1 yr old and 5 yr old) DFW-ORD-PVG (1st international trip and my 5 yr old asked the FA to make her some chicken nuggets for dinner!)

(same 1 yr old and 5 year old, 1 month later) DFW-LGW xfer to LHR-Malaga
and return Malaga-MAD-CDG (stopover to visit friends in Paris) - DFW

Upcoming trip (leaving Friday, yeah) with now 2 yr old and 6 yr old,

DFW-LGA xfer to JFK (6 1/2 hours in NY!), JFK-MXP, drive 3 1/2 hours to NCE

Still not very competitive with some of you crazy folks, but then again, having the kids along adds some excitement to the trip! (And I can add that last, upcoming trip to the Longest Trip with the mother-in-law category, too http://www.nonrev.net/forums/style_e...#>/biggrin.gif )

P.S. Adding - My husband and I had to split up on a return last summer from MSP to DFW. My 6 yr old and I spent the night in MSP and flew to DFW the next morning; but my husband and 2 yr old ended up flying MSP-ORD-waited several hours and eventually got onto a much delayed AUS flight; arrived about 2 AM, slept at airport 3 hours and took 6 AM flight from AUS to DFW - and he went to work that day! I think he wins for most difficult trip.

WITH KIDS???? OMG--KILL ME NOW!!
(ok, maybe that was too dramatic, so sharp stick in my eye would be preferred!!)
