Any ideas on non-revving to countries that require proof of RT airline ticket purchase? I actually had this issue trying to check in at a hostel in Maui. They required proof or RT tickets. I had to dig out my gate passes and show my airline ID before they'd let me check in! When applying for a visa, how is this requirement circumvented? Do we show a copy of the ZED paper ticket?
I usually call an embassy/consulate first if I have to arrange a visa in advance.
I take copy of standby itinerary, including ID90whatever or zed, as well as copy of husband's airline ID and marriage certificate. I actually had to get a Congressional letter to get same day/last minute passport services because we don't fit their "normal" circumstances. I usually get a letter from Chief Pilot's Office, regarding my husband's employment, asking for extended courtesies from gov agencies, etc. I'm sure your dept head has a form letter.
I take it you are not a US citizen?

I have this issue every time I try and rent a car with Alamo and use my debit card instead of a credit card. They always want to see my return ticket for some reason. Some locations have been more difficult to work with than others, but I almost always have to explain to them how "non revving works". Luckily, the location I fly into the most knows me by now and they only check my company ID. But In San Diego I actually had to pull out a non rev pass (the kind you just fill out yourself) and fill it out in front of him with the destination listed, which made us all feel kind of stupid.

Specifically, trying to get back to Nigeria. US Passport. Previously I went on a "subject-to-regularization" visa (lengthy process toward resident alien status) and an open paper ticket issued by a TA. Believe it or not, I still have my Yellow Card which is still required according to their gov't website, as well as a host of other particulars.
Carriers would probably be KL or DL. I just wonder if ZED tickets would suffice. Printing out a RT PNR? You've got to figure their immigration has caught on to the cottage industry of creating itineraries and scamming people in the US to send money to pay for the ticket. In other words, proof of confirmed space is not proof of a ticket, obviously. Same for standby.
Next phase is to make sure my life insurance is up to date.
All, had this happen to me twice, one time in MNL and the 2nd in JNB..
In MNL, I was asked for my return ticket FROM Manila to my next point. So, I showed the Immigration officer coupon #2 of my CX NRSA ticket (HKG-MNL-HKG),, He initially refused it saying this "isn't a confirmed ticket onward.".. True. In the end, the CX duty supervisor came over and "vouched" for me saying that I could leave anytime between now and 21 days (the max permitted w/o a visa for USA citizens) and that I would be able to get out without difficulty. So he let me in.. As we (CX Supervisor and I) were walking thru baggage claim, he remarked that this sometimes happen with new immigrations officer s who have never seen a non-rev person before.
2nd time was is JNB.. I had come in on TG using a BKK-JNB-BKK ID95.. When I got to immigration I was asked for my return ticket.. I noticed that nearly everyone else on the plane was asked this too.. so I didn't feel anything wrong.. When I showed him my ticket he asked about the "lines" thru it.. (staff ticket identifer) I told him that the lines were the universal industry standard for marking a employee or reduced rate ticket.. He asked for my confirmation. I told him I was planning on leaving in 5 days.. He again asked for my airline confirmation. I gave him my PNR.. He then told me that I was "inadmissable" since I did not have a valid return ticket out of South Africa.. I was taken to an "interviewing room" and met with a supervisor from Immigration. TG's rep was also called..
In the end, with the help of South African's ticket counter supervisor it was agreed that I would buy the cheapest REFUNDABLE oneway from JNB to NBO.. I think it was around $300.. That would make me admissable and I could turn right around and refund it afterwards.. In all, I spent 3 hours running around in one huge paperchase.. I did leave a nice note for the South African manager and he and his staff were very nice and helpful..
