I passed this on to the DL management but haven't received a reply, yet. I would think that the World's Largest Airline could do something like this, also. Just sent it to the Delta Board Council, too.

Don't get too excited ... yet. My understanding is that the lounges are intended for use by AA employees/families only. Opening them up to OAL will create complications which increase costs. As the lounges are intended to operate at very low- (if not no-) cost to AA, AA is likely to board them up if they get to be too costly to manage.
I'm awaiting confirmation.

Apparently the staff "waiting area" at T5 is right next door to the prayer room. Intentional?
I tried the new BA system on T5 two months ago..... fantastic....
I didnt even notice I was a non rev pax.
I listed on the flight to CPT at their web site about a week before my intented flight date.
I showed up at the airport about 2,5 hours before...
Right at the airport you will see plenty of easy check-in machines, which will check you in. It will ask you some questions and then it will print out a standby boarding pass, with your priority (the system knows if the employee is a one world employee or not, and assing different priorities for each case), and record locator reference.
Then, we went to the room for clearing standby's... It is exactly at the left hand of the check-in hall... We asked, and an agent told us.
As we took a look, we saw that there are many seats that people use to rest before the their flights get resolved. Also there are a couple of computer to list yourself if you have arrived at the airport without a listing. Remember that there is no other way of listing but online, and also there it will be no one at the room to help people and give loads... There are only some families and people waiting for a seat.
It is also clearly explained that it is unnecesary to wait there long time before, as the flight information is only exposed just one hour before departure. So we went to have a sandwich right next to the room, at the Cafe Nero.
If you have listed properly and put your mobile number at the reservation, they text you a message telling your status onboard, but I will explain it later.
Right before an hour for the departure, we approached at the room, and we sat. As we only had hand luggage, we had it on us, but if someone has to check any suitcase, you have to tag it at any bag drop even before you know if you are accepted on the flight, and then keep the luggage with you waiting for the final result.
at the room there where many LCD tv on a wall, and you have to look for your flight. Then you will see your record locator number before the title of your flight, and it shows an status, for example: WAITING SEAT... or ACCEPTED, or NOT ACCEPTED BUT RESILTED ON THE NEXT FLIGHT. there are some pannels where BA explains what to do at any status, so do not panic...
As they started accepting people, passengers were leaving the room and then they went the famous BLUE OR RED DESK, which are just at the other side of the corridor when you get out of the room. Two meters of distance!!
So lets just see the possibilities:
1.- you have been accepted: the screen will say ACCEPTED GO TO BLUE DESK... so you cross the corridor, and there are like two check-in possitions with agents that will check your ZED/ID ticket, and will handle you boarding passes with seats. Then you ask where to leave your suitcases that you tagged before.
2.- NOT ACCEPTED, RELISTED ON THE NEXT FLIGHT: BA automaticaly relist you on the next flight (if any) for the same destination... you dont even have to do anything... just wait for the next flight...
3.- NOT ACCEPTED, GO TO THE RED DEST: I suppose it means that you have not been accepted, and they want to ask you something... like if you want to be relisted for other destination, or if you want to split your party, or something like that.
One second after the screen said to us that we were accepted, my Spanish mobile phone received an SMS, saying: BA ACCEPTED ON THE FLIGHT, PLEASE CONTACT THE BLUE DESK OR ANY FAST BAG DROP... I didnt know that it even worked for International mobile numbers, but it did work.
Then you have to run to your gate, because it is usually far, and you have to first go to check your passport to any of PASSPORT AND DOCUMENT CONTROL AGENT at the check-in areas.................., then go through Security........... then we took a train to our gate, and then board....
BA was sooo nice that gave us premium economy, which is a quieter cabin with a little wider seats, and nice catering.... lovely experience if you see what I paid for the zed...
My partner was amazed. So was I.

SpainFlyer thanks for the great info. The last time I was in LHR, the computer system was down, lines were snaking around the terminal, progress was slow, tempers and temperatures were high, it was pouring rain outside, the guy behind me kept poking me in the leg with his umbrella and an agent was on a chair yelling for AA passengers for flight XXX to come this way....we did, right into another line.

I am interested in the mechanics of it all really. It was certainly a topic of water cooler discussion when I went and visited our ticketing officer - we wished we could have the same in HKG. Well we can't use our own lounge but we get a discount at the 3rd party lounge, i think around $15-20USD to use it so I can't really complain - it sure beats the $50USD to pay in to an AA lounge (I must say i was tempted when I had a 10hr layover at LAX!!). But yeah, I assume they could only be self-managed as they aren't going to employ someone to stand there, and they can't really make you swipe your AA ID as your family wouldn't have one? So in that respect I think there are a lot of details to be worked through - but interested to hear how it all works out.

Yes, very interesting post re BA at LHR. I used to avoid the old BA bunfight at T4 but this new system seems a great improvement.
BA have a special site for ID listing. It's https://idtravel.ba.com/ (note the https)
It would be interesting to know other airline sites for listing which are available to access by other carriers staff. Or even retired staff like myself.

As retired BA staff I am really pleased that you had a good experience in T5. BA staff took a lot of stick over the opening fiasco, but everyone worked hard to rectify the problems including the staff travel issues. It's good that you pointed out the need to move fast once you've been acepted. You have to be at the compliance security point no later then -35 otherwise you won't be allowed through.
I have never experienced it myself, but I understand from some ex colleagues (Duty Managers) that it can be a problem if you have baggage to take to fast bag drop, but on the whole the system is working well and importantly onloads are computer generated, so it is truly according to onload priority.

Does anyone have any experience with priority pass?
Considering the amount I travel the fee is not too bad, and they have lounges at most of the places I end up traveling to or through.
The only catch I noticed is once again the "Airline, airport and other travel industry employees traveling on reduced-rate tickets may not be eligible for access" in their t&cs.
I still fail to understand this so well... it is one thing to show up at a lounge with your non rev ticket at try and access that carriers lounge for free. It is another to pay priority pass who the lounge then bill for your access - essentially you are giving the airline revenue!
Has anyone had experience with this? Any opinions?
I can see that there would be no issue entering third party lounges (for example in HKG it is run by plaza premium lounges, or a lot are by servisair in Europe), however in the USA most are operated by airlines (NW, UA, US, DL mainly). Are they likely to take issue? Are they less likely to take issue if you enter a lounge run by say US when you are non revving on AA? Seems to me one could get away with it that way.... as with priority pass whoever the lounge is run by doesn't have to correspond with what airline you fly.
we are not permitted to use the Delta lounges as part of PP membership because we're Delta employees when we travel nonrev. NOW, if we buy a slightly discounted Crown Room membership for minimum 1 year we can use ours/partner lounges.

Although PP would give me more options that my airline / partners anyways. My question is, say i was nonrevving on american, but the designated PP lounge for that terminal was a DL lounge, would DL care i am nonrevving on AA? They can't discriminate what airline you are flying on as whoever is a member they have to let in, but would they still get all hung up on the fact you are staff?

Nick, I really feel for you. At the moment LAX is a complete 'black hole' to get out of.
But, last time I was in LAX, I was able to access the free wifi from the joint OneWorld lounge - came in very handy! I simply sat outside the entrance to the reLax entry (I think) on the side near the restaurant (as opposed to the McDonalds). The reLAX and Star Alliance lounges also came up, but they required the 'key' for access.
Yeah I was lucky to make it out. Stupid really, when I left there were 100 seats open so I didn't even buy any CX backups. Then I get to LA from SFO and try to get some, and the CX staff tell me that I have to get them in SFO!
I ended up in a exit row next to another cute nonrev, so I won't complain.
The ReLAX lounge though, i'm glad i didn't pay (had joined priority pass) as it was an absolute joke. Who doesn't build a restroom or showers in a lounge, and who doesn't serve/sell alcohol?!

So Nick you told us what's not in the BA lounge, could you tell us what is? Also is the lounge easy to find, my list of directions "go behind a door near the Cafe Nero" seem rather short. LOLQuote:
