Non Rev Around the World

After 27yrs in the industry, I have decided to make a goal this year of flying non-rev around the world.
I am not being strict on keeping it equatorial, just anything somewhat close, and plan on taking approx 1 week or so to complete the trip.
I live in PDX, so my starting point will be somewhere on the west coast traveling eastbound. Some thoughts are:
Pdx/Sea - Jfk - Ams - Bom - Bkk - Nrt - Pdx/Sea.
Next year I hope to fly around the world on a polar route.
Has anyone done this? If so, what routing did you take?

Pretty sure we use polar routes on HKG-JFK in our 777s, also SIN-JFK on SQ etc.

I was thinking of going around the world also. In July some new routes will be started up. I was thinking of hopping MDT-ATL-LAX-SYD-JNB-CPT-JNB-ATL-MDT.

Some polar routes would be SE Asia-JFK like Nick said.

Also, if you&#39;re cheap like me, eastbound flights are usually redeyes, and you&#39;ve got one less hotel to fork up for. Plus you&#39;ve got the tailwind.

I would love to try this sometime. I have planned one but it never did materialize.
One of my co-workers has done it three times, once westbound and twice eastbound, crossing the equator each time.

That map is pretty sweet.

The back track is because I want to see CPT. I don&#39;t know of any flights from Australia straight to CPT. And that shiny new 777-200LR with the Contour Premium flat bed sweet suites will be flying JNB-ATL.

Looks like my map won&#39;t cross the equator...somewhat of another goal I would like to achive.

Am going to try to keep most of it on NW as we have an awesome interline agreement with them, at least until the merger is complete. I&#39;d better hurry.
Nick, thanks for the info on the possible polar route, I may keep it in mind for next year.
Let&#39;s see if how many "wide window seats"(F/C) I can get.
Keep the routings coming...I will keep everyone informed on what I decide!

From memory SYD-JNB can get quite full and payload restricted. Might wanna check out PER-JNB on QF or SA also.

That sounds great!..I would like to get my wife to go, but she is an F/A and is having second thoughts about being cooped up in an aircraft for that long. Can&#39;t say I blame her though. So now I may plan this on my own.

So I think I&#39;m headed to HKG this week. I was considering flying through DTW or ATL and NRT to HKG on my first day off, or working all day, and then hopping through CVG to FRA or CDG and taking Lh or AF to HKG. That would get me in a little earlier, and I&#39;d get around the world, but my Atlantic to Pacific ratio is a little high(12-0).

I&#39;m open to suggestion. Also, of course, my top priority, anybody know if I&#39;d have a better or any chance of business on LH or AF?

do the trip7 out of ATL--prob get biz class--you can&#39;t get that on NW. 15 hrs in coach has to be horrid--it&#39;s pretty nifty in biz eilte. then pcik up the NW to HKG. make sure you find the escalator--what a hoot!! take the cheap ferry thru the harbor. get an octopus card including the airport train. are you overnighting in NArita? get discount from PanPacific hotel aka email info@naritatokyu.co.jp LAst price they ofered me was around 11000yen?
Best runway view is from their bar on 11th floor. Eat elsewhere--$$$$

I&#39;ve only been offered business once on AF--my seatmate had to ask the FA to serve me--he couldn&#39;t figure out why she was ignoring me and I couldn&#39;t really tell him I was nonrev. Service really sucked but that was many yrs ago. I will avoid AF like the plague personally.

I would like to go through BOM, but I don&#39;t think you can transit without a visa.

So I read that DL is getting 3 77Ls this month(supposed to come in Jan, but delayed due to Boeing strike). I would love to get a ride on a first flight.

You got an agreement with CX? We have 2 a day out of FRA, 2 every second day out of CDG and 1 on other days. But if you are looking to get upgraded don&#39;t bother with us... hell would freeze over first

Branson was quoted last week they picked the wrong a/c to come down here with... 773er is built for the mission whereas the 77L is for longer ops. Maybe it was all hot air... time will tell

This same thought came to me about three weeks ago. Doing some research I came up with this routing: CVG-ATL-NRT (Delta) NRT-ICN-BOM (KoreaN Air) BOM-ATL-AMS (Delta) AMS-SFO (KLM) SFO-CVG (Delta). why not ATL/ICN nonstop--did you need to be in Narita for anything? BTW-it&#39;s really nowhere near Tokyo...same as Incheon--it&#39;s close to Airport Town, Korea...if you get my drift!
I would seriously utilize NW to get to BKK and then take whatever you need to make it to BOM
definitely had me wondering about the SFO leg
