Non-Reving to warm destination at Christmas input needed

Hello!
I am told that I will have flight passes of some variety again after the NW/Delta merger. I am a non-dependant child of a NW employee and am looking forward to any info on how the system works, particularly pricing.

I have a week off PAID between Christmas and New Years (working for a university is wonderful) and would like to go somewhere warm. I know that is the worst time of year to non-rev, particularly out of a cold climate like Detroit. However, I don't just want to sit at home. Has anyone had a good experience non-reving to a warm destination at this time of year? Are there any destinations in which the flights are not always full? I know much will change with flights between now and Christmas, but I am just looking for a few destinations to start considering. I would be going solo.

Hi LizzyP, welcome aboard.
Well you have two major things going for you, you're willing to go 'anywhere' warm and you're traveling solo.
My suggestion, come out here to the west coast, (LA, San Diego) nice and warm.
Also I've found the best day to non-rev is the actual holiday day; those early Christmas and New Year's morning flights usually have a few empty seats.

Don't come to Texas. It's more than warm. It's downright sizzling. You can cook fajitas out in the sun. It's so dam hot I want to stay in the house and lay down till October. Where do you live? I should go visit somewhere cold for three months.

The Arizona desert is wonderful at that time of the year. It will usually be sunny (hey, we have over 300 sunny days a year) but the nights are cool. For someone from Michigan, the daytime temperature is ideal. Since Christmas is on a Friday this year, I would say your best bet would be to fly on the 25th or 26th as most people will want to stay until Sunday the 26th.
