Car rental discounts
USAA seems to have a good web site on rental car discounts through them with AVIS, BUDGET and HERTZ. They wave the yearly enrollment fee of 60 dollars for their Gold Card membership, however, they aren't specific as to whether they charge you thereafter for it, or extend you or what. They seem to have great rates for USAA members though, around 25 percent. Airline discount rates for cars are the worse. I have always had the best luck with AAA but now that I joined up with USAA, I have still to use them. What are your selections for best rental car discounts?

Airline discount rates for car rentals don't seem to be really great: at several occasions I've been able to get bigger discounts through public sources than with an airline discount.
A nice place to find all currently valid promotions from all/most car renting companies is this one:

I have the best luck with the "tab" specials like Dollar and Budget but often limited to wkends. We signed up for an email notices (midweek mailing)
USAA does have good pricing typically. I finds I have to remove any corp codes to get better deals on specials

Well. Just got off the phone talking to the Hertz people and they said that the 60 dollar annual membership fee is waived for USAA members. I was checking out their travel site, and to my surprise, I have 5,000 points credited whenever I joined USAA vacation points, which means it can be redeemed for resorts for 300 dollars off. Wish I had known this before going to cancun, however, cool beans. Will definately use them the next time around. I'm really liking this USAA member thing. I noticed they have a car buying program that points you right to your dealer closest to you with thousands of bucks off MSRP. I know alot of other clubs do this but so far, USAA seems to really make a noticable difference.

we're using the USAA car program to get my new Soul--the salesperson is 3rd generation USAA, too, so she is on board w/pricing--now if she can just get some extra $$ off for my '95 mitsubishi expo...they wil let us pay cash/credit card(must have skymiles!!) for the total. I have put off this purcahse for almost 2 yrs--having separation issues w/my old car...kinda like getting rid of a teenager--you WANT to but just CANT?
I really was hoping my husband woudl contact "Pimp My rRde" TV show and I'd have my old car back a few wks later in some bizarre color w/leather interior and a sound system to rattle my tootsies...or at least auto door locks (Still using a key--that's how OLD it is!!) and it has a tape player--no CD (NO 8 Track tho HAR HAR)
