Does anyone use this? You pay 100 bucks valid for 5 years. You apply online, you get called in for this interview, to see if you are eligible, and what this does is you bypass lines by going to an automated kiosk machine, scan your passport. Supposed to save you time in the lines.
I say hogwash with this. I'll just stand in line. 100 bucks for VIP treatment over a passport entry? Nah.....
Valid for 5 years? Hmmm, I may actually try that. I thought it was only 1 year, which isn't so bad. Also, this makes you automatically eligible for the TSA pre program, or whatever it's called, and you're more likely to use that.

We have it and it's worth it!! Boss uses it alot more than I do. 1-2 Minutes at a kiosk on arrival at JFK instead of 20-45 mins or more
in line? Not for me! No forms to complete (unless declaring for customs)--no blue immigration form!
Go to kiosk, see flight info, scan, pause and go. If you enter the US 5 times year X 5 years, what's it worth to save that time (particularly for a connection) ? It's worth 4 bucks to me!!
And they gave us a nice leather-like passport case after the interview.
You can also go hog wild and get the Amex Platinum card for 2 people for $600+ for the first year, get 2 Global Entry (5 yr) reimbursements, $200 off airline fees, drinks/food on board, access to DL, AA, US air lounges for a year, plus Priority Pass Lounges all over the world (3 yr ultimate membership) plus Starwood Hotels Gold Status (without the extra stays) , lots of other goodies. No foreign exchange fees when used overseas--that can be a alot.
Even tho we already paid for GE, that card is perfect for us because of all the perks we actually use. We earn points to spend on stuff and can transfer to some programs as needed (like Starwood pts for free stays, then get upgrades as Gold) Pricey but if you use it, it's good. At the end of our year, I'll negotiate the next yr fee.
I don't think you can use the TSA pre-approval on nonrev tickets. I haven't seen anywhere on our system.
Actually, TSA pre-approval is valid for non-rev tickets as well.
$100 for 5 years is definitely worth it. Years ago I had an INS Pass card which was relatively the same and what a difference that made. In some cases it meant making a same day connection vs. overnighting at a gateway.Quote:

I fly into far larger airports than IAH and the regular international traffic is much higher. Far more flights arriving immigration at JFK and ATL, etc. If you don't have any line and can always fly direct to IAH, then I agree, it isnt for you at all. I travel 10+ times per year and I want to connect smoothly, or have time to relax at the lounge. It's for me, for sure. No forms, either!
lol, I hear yah, but as mrs767er said, if you travel through ATl, ORD or JFK on International flights and they all hit at the same time, the lines can be veeerrryyyy loonnngggg. I will be signing up for it for sure because there is a benefit there for me.
I do understand your frustration on the whole clearance thing because they should be able to cross reference your background, but remember 911 did highlight that the various Federal agencies never really share their data with each other. Not sure how far they have reached in this process
You aren't the ONLY military flight member here who has been cleared one way or another . I can guess my husband has had higher clearance than you ever had, but I can;t know that and it's not a _____ measuring contest. If YOU don't want to do the Global Entry --you know my opinion and it has to do with a rodent and a body part. Grow up. If you want to stand in line, GO AHEAD.Quote:

I think you are incorrect. We don't have lanes for employees thru customs or immigration . No airline has them-- government controlled.
Uniformed crews do have immigration lines (along with diplomats/dignitaries)--family members are not permitted in crew lines.
You must be thinking about security and that's 50/50 if TSA allows me to access that line while on nonrev travel. I think ATL has a nonrev TSA lane in the far terminal security entry.
I'm recognized at CVG often, so it's no big deal and our lines are very short for TSA. We all end up with same check agent. JFK is all one line, uniformed crew cuts up front always. Most other majors are that way.
I still need my GE for fast tracking out of immigration w/out forms--more time in the lounge or not missing that tight connection.
PS--whoever mentioned it; I found the trusted traveler option on travelnet--never noticed it before--thanks!
After all the editing, I'll just toss my popcorn in the trash and skip the rest....

This is what I was referring to, as in doubting you would actually do that. For the above stated reasons. And yes, it's an old article, hence my disclaimer of saying "Supposedly enforcement of this has been suspended, but I would not bet my career on it." well, I decided to chime in about the original issue. I added my GE number in the "trusted traveler" box on my deltnet listing, so I'll find out how it effects my TSA check-in at JFK. I'm going to have dinner w/Boss in Brussels--Love the mussels!! And I get to use GE on return to JFK on Thursday. It's only $100 5 years for and I'M WORTH IT!!

Well, JFK immigration had about 200 people in multiple lanes when I arrived today. I walked over to the GE kiosk, waited for about 3 minutes for 2 people in front of me (they were a bit discombobulated with carry-on crap), scanned my passport and my fingerprints, answered each query about my status and took my receipt to customs. Walked to the transit desk and met my husband on the way (he cleared crew lane). Total time was 6 minutes. PRICELESS!!
I think we get it. All those suckers in the airport waiting in line, but you are not one of them. Hip hip horay!
Estimated 400 poeple in queue at ATL at 6:15 AM today. Global entry kiosks on 2 walls--30 seconds to process w/reciept and straight thru customs. No more than 2 minutes, tops, walking time included. Presto!!
BTW--in case anyone is still confused--GE is for passport control, then you take the receipt and walk thru customs, showing it.
When the CBP queues contain 400 people, it's a very good way to bypass all of them. I have yet to return to the US via major airports with no one in line at immigration (passport control). Worth every penny in my book.
Just did short trip to DC for passport/visa biz. Used the Global Entry card @ new TSA Precheck at both CVG and DCA. What a treat! Designated queue--just a few of us. Hubby didn't have his PP since the State Dept is "using" it for a day, so he got the "fast track emp lane" and I got Precheck. Nothing out of my carryon/handbag--just put it on conveyor--and shoes stayed on my feet. Walked thru, then waited for him. Another great advantage of Global Entry. We're getting him the GE card (he only has a stamp inside passport) Laptops and toiletries stay in bag and jackets/sweaters don't have to be removed. Made it so eay and super fast! I've seen employee lines at ATL with 50 people in them. This is a wonderful deal for $20/year.
Boss just got his new GE card. He applied for it (they didn't issue them until July 2011) on Monday 17th while waiting at the SkyClub. Card arrived today (20th) and activated it immediately.(mine was issued on the spot after Jul 2011) He has commute tomorrow--let's see if TSA will accept it when he's in uniform. It really is nice to leave all your belongings inside your bags on the conveyor. and no bare/sock feet!
Just got my Global Entry card... will be using it for the first time next week MIA to ZRH. My husband is an international pilot and uses his all of the time. Well worth the money. My fave part will be the TSA precheck line! :)

And My2tailwaggers, just because your last post talked about using it MIA-ZRH, you do know that card is basically useless outside of the US, right? Granted, it's good for TSA in the US (and only the US, maybe cities with US preclearance) but you won't be able to really use it until the end of your return trip.
Boss used it at CVG yesterday for Precheck. Just put his bags on the conveyor and walked thru w/shoes on. He was in uniform, but crew has to follow TSA regs like everyone else, otherwise. Just have to show the card w/ID.
Wouldn't he have just used the KnownCrew program? Or does CVG not offer that?Quote:

Good to know that crew can use precheck with just GE card and ID. Thought a BP was required. One thing I hope they change is allowing pax to use the precheck lane when traveling international. That and expanding it to more airports sooner rather than later.
My husband had a BP ( I always print one for him or he does when he arrives at connection--makes no difference unless you have GE.) GE is worth every penny, contrary to what someone here has said. $100 for 5 years?? Heavens to Betsy--I think of Forest Gump quote....and I don't mean "life is like a box of chocolates"!
