We have booked a cruise out of Trieste, Italy for 10/19/13. Best flights for us are in/out of Milan, in-10/17, out 10/27. We want to go from Milan to Venice for a day (10/17-18), then over to Trieste to catch the cruise (10/18).
any recommendations about how to get MXP-VCE-TRS? Hotels in VCE/MXP/TRS? Any thoughts, comments, warnings, etc.....would be much appreciated!

I'd plan on 2 nts in VCE to be safe.

Take the bus service 15 from the Airport to the Venezia Mestre train station.

From Venezia Mestre regional trains take less than 2 hours to Trieste. The fare for the trains departing at 09:23; 10:00; 12:23; 13:23; 14:23; 15:23; 16:23; 17:23; 18:23; 19:54; 23:12 is €9.70. Other trains are available at higher fares between €13.00 and €18.50.

Welcome aboard flydal. You might also do a quick search (Trieste). As I recall, earlier this year another member took a cruise out of Trieste. They might have some recommendations.
