Anyone for a plate of..........

I was wondering, does anyone here use specialty plates aside the generic issues? I see people here with alot of NFL TEXANS license plates, I see personal names on their license plates, or nicknames like "MISSY", I have seen RADIO OPERATORS for the HAMS, Names of football players of the Texans, other license plates like WILDLIFE and a picture of some animal,
"TEXAN NATIVE", then there are the U.S. GOVERNMENT official business license plates, the cops have their special plates, forget what it says...on occassion I see DV license plates for Disabled Veterans, on very few occasions I see military specialty plates, but when I do, I think they look pretty cool which shows pride in his/her service.
I'm waiting on some military license plates myself for my car, still hasn't come in the mail yet. This would be my fourth time I get them and no extra fees related to them. Some states give plates if you served in certain conflicts or even just being in the service during a time of conflict or war. I see in some states, I could probably qualify for around 4 license plates, but in others, maybe just one or two. Some states have license plates for the organization you belong to, such as the VFW or AMERICAN LEGION or MARINE CORPS LEAGUE. Some states have the MERCHANT MARINE licesne plates, for those that served during WWII, but I see in other states, if you can prove you are in the Merchant Marines, you can get a license plate. Some plates I feel I should qualify for but for some technicality, I don't, others I qualify for seem unjust and not really viable in my eyes. It is neat to find out you may qualify for some license plate you may like to put on your car. Other times, the criteria may become a disappointment, but nothing to lose sleep over for sure. I wonder when the airlines will have their own specialty license plates. Like "UNITED AIRLINES" and on the bottom plate "AIRCRAFT TECHNICIAN" with the UNITED LOGO on the license plate. That would be neat.
But one thing is certain. There is always some license plate out there that can meet anyones needs, and if you don't qualify for one, you can make one up with a name like "SISSY""! May cost you some money but you got it.

Colorado has a ton of different kinds of license plates - different schools, a few causes, military status, and of course the personalized plates (not too common, though a lot of people in Wisconsin had that when I went to school there). Me? I registered both cars with the Colorado DMV at the same time (one from when I moved from out of state, the other having been purchased in-state a month earlier). Because of that, my plates are 369-___ and 370-___, with the same ___ following. I was pretty excited about that.

Oh! I almost forgot, I've seen a license plate near my work that just happened to be given "747-UAL" a couple times which I thought was cool. Too bad it was a crappy old car with a bumper sticker claiming that "9/11 was an inside job"

Military plates are not considered "Vanity" plates. They charge a small fee maybe for the plate in most states, but in Texas they are free aside the regular license plate fees. "Vanity" plates or "Personalized" plates can cost some money. I know a guy that got his plates personalized for 10 years, he paid like 700 bucks plus upfront, because he liked his that said something like "JETFXR". I don't know why he likes that, but to each his own. He is former Navy and Navy plates would look outstanding on his car. If I had to pay extra for my military plates, I probably would not own them. I get mine because they cost me nothing extra. I would pay a token 3-10 bucks for the plates if it were a one time deal, and not for every year to renew them with the added fee. I'd just do like everyone else. My loyalty in my license plates go with my military service over anything airline related even though I make my living with the airlines. Just the way it is.

I like the way Michigan military plates work. They divide it between conflicts and war periods and peacetime. They have them for conflicts in Lebanon, Grenada, Somalia, Cuban missle crisis, Panama, and for the WARS they are WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, Afghanistan.
