Getting up early for flights

Any of you have this problem? I'll plan on going somewhere for a day or two and have to either take a redeye or early am flight. More often than not I end up just going to sleep instead. I've done day trips a few times and really enjoyed myself, but boy is it hard to get up early for those flights or stay up late on a consistent basis. I feel like I'm missing out on seeing a lot of places. If I'm only 24 now there's no way in hell I'm going to want to do these types of trips when I get older. Apparently I value sleep way too much.:mellow:

I've had to sacrafice sleep to get somewhere due to flights being favorable for nonrevs either early or if you have to go at night, you have to sacrafice seeing more of a place by waiting to do it the next day. But even if you get there at night, you can for instance check out the hotel casino or bar kind of make it a night thing and the morrow brings on a new day. Not a big deal really.

It depends.....
If I have to be somewhere, I definitely get up early.

If the trip is not a must, then I tend to sleep in too.

Same here. I'm trying to not sleep in so much for those optional trips. But I do enjoy my sleep.

That's a tough one. When I would nonrev, I always had to go out on the 6am flight, as everything else was full every day. I always worked about 3pm-midnight, so getting up at 4am and scrambling for that flight was always tough. A couple times I did just go back to sleep and skip my trip, but I went to a lot of effort with shift swaps and all for my trips, that I usually forced myself to go. Some of the most fun trips I had were those that I forced myself to the airport and slept on the plane. Of course these days getting up and flying isn't a choice, but I often disappoint myself when I plan something fun on a layover, but decide to sleep instead..........well, not really decide, more like hit a wall.

There's a whole lot of world out there to see and experience, my advice would be to sleep when you're dead!

So true. Last night I even went to bed at 7 so I could get up at 5 for a flight to LAX and spend the day there and still ended up sleeping in! This time it paid off because the flight was scheduled for 6:45 and was delayed until 2:30 pm last I checked.

Go everywhere man. And when you do go, just roll with it. Have a good time, make mistakes, find yourself in insane situations that your friends would never believe. As stupid as I've been sometimes, I've had a complete blast travelling this world. Just go for the ride!

Alright let's try again for LAX tomorrow. My return flight gets in at 8:22 pm and I'm covering someone working at 9 pm. This may or may not be a completely boneheaded risk.

I'd totally do that, but I'd have a swap lined up on standby in case you have issues getting back

Made it back. I didn't do a thing but stroll around on the beach but the in n out burger run always makes it worth it. But I'm going to be a zombie the rest of the shift.

Any in and outs in Alaska?

Nope. They are mainly in CA with some scattered into NV, UT, TX, and AZ.

Dockweiler or Manhattan? Sitting on the beach, eating In-N-Out, watching planes, sounds like a nice afternoon or a great day trip.:cool:

Manhattan. It was a bit of a pain taking the bus over but for only $1 I can't complain. My gf and I are both beach volleyball players. When the 6 months are up and I can add her as an opposite sex domestic partner on my flight benefits I pretty much told her that any free day we have we're going to Manhattan Beach for the day to play a bit. The amount of volleyball nets set up there absolutely blew my mind.

Assume dude, have a good time. I'm parlaying a work trip to Europe into a work-cation. Having an awesome time over here!
