DAL Reports 45% Increase YTD
DAL had 916,278 passengers get on and off passenger airlines there in February, a 45.1 percent increase from the 631,628 passengers a year earlier.
A year earlier, we still had the Wright amendment, which limited the states to which airlines could fly nonstop out of Dallas. As of Oct. 13, we don’t, which accounts for increased flights and passengers.
SWA, which now operates 153 daily departures, carried 832,121 passengers in and out of the airport, up 36.2 percent from 610,970 in February 2014.
Next in totals is Virgin America, which entered Love Field on Oct. 13. It carried 51,098 passengers in February. Last February, with fewer flights and destinations, it carried 28,403 passengers in and out of DFW .Through two months of 2015, Love Field’s traffic is up 46.4 percent to 1,882,826 passengers getting on and off flights there. That compares to 1,286,366 during January-February 2014.
In March, we’ll see UA numbers go down because it halted Love Field service as of March 16. On April 8, SWA plans to expand from 153 weekday departures to 166, and add daily nonstop to nine cities.
That should provide a nice bump in April’s passenger numbers. United flew 50-seat aircraft, while most of Southwest’s airplanes have 143 seats or 175 seats.
