Retired and have not used non rev in a while

Hello! My wife and I are going to try flying from BOS to PBI next weekend. I have not used this perk in a long time and was hoping to get a few pointers.

1) Is it better to book each leg or the whole trip? i.e. layover airports
2) Should we buy multiple airlines. looking at Jetblue and United

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Cape Codder. I suggest you book all the way through first . Does Jetblue loads look good? Tues/ Wed are your best days. Check Spring break volume and holidays. Good luck.

Welcome aboard CapeCodder. I gotta go along with D2, a direct flight is the less stressful way to go. And you'll definitely want to avoid traveling to/from PBI during spring break. The Forum has members with both UA and B6 and they will help you with loads.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion. There are several straight through flights on the day we want to depart.&nbsp; Not sure of the loads but will ask for someone to check on the day when it gets closer.&nbsp;<br><br>

The whole leg is always better and you can be a through passenger for the second leg. Having tickets on other airlines is always a good idea, if you do not use them you get a refund. Hope you make it.

It is also better to buy one way tickets (including connections) as opposed to roundtrips as partially used round trips cannot be refunded.

I understand better to book straight through and nonstop if at all possible. One more question.... I recall in the past you would have to call and get placed on the standby list. when booking on myIDtravel, is that still required or just us the tickets from there and then check in at the gate?

It depends on the airline. For JetBlue, there is no need to call. For United, it is necessary to list via the id90travel website:

Must make their flight listing via the UA Web Flight Listing Tool (available through the ID90T website www.id90travel.com

• Username: XXemp (XX = your two letter airline code)
• Password: ### (### = your billing code/three digit ticket designator)

The above info is from flyzed.info which has a lot of helpful info when traveling on a zed ticket. For UA & B6, you may check in on the respective app 24 hours prior to departure. The B6 app will even show you your position on the standby list and how many seats are available after checking in.

It really depends on the airline, myidtravel tells you... and as islppilot says wisely ALWAYS buy one way segments on other airlines to get refunded easily...
