BWI Expands for SWA, $55mil toilet upgrades.

BWI/Marshall Airport is moving ahead on the largest capital project in its history, with a $332 million construction contract up for approval by the state’s spending board next week.
The multiyear project, which was delayed amid the pandemic, will renovate and expand the connector between concourses A and B, add new passenger amenities including food and retail concessions and new restrooms, install a new baggage handling system and create BWI/Marshall Airport is moving ahead on the largest capital project in its history, with a $332 million construction contract up for approval by the state’s spending board next week.
The multiyear project, which was delayed amid the pandemic, will renovate and expand the connector between concourses A and B, add new passenger amenities including food and retail concessions and new restrooms, install a new baggage handling system and create larger gate areas to accommodate the bigger airplanes being flown by Southwest Airlines, the airport’s largest carrier.


The project — which BWI Airport Executive Director Ricky Smith told The Washington Post is the largest in the airport’s history — builds on several other ongoing or recently completed improvements at the airport. Most significant is a $48 million expansion to concourse A, which opened in May 2021. Other ongoing projects include a $55 million project to update the airport's bathrooms, improvements at concourse D including new lighting and ceiling enhancements, and a major solicitation process to renew and revitalize its food and retail concession program.
