Debbie: Nonrev correspondent Orlando

Hello all!
My name is Debbie and I am the nonrev correspondent for the Orlando, FL area. I live right next to Walt Disney World in a little town that Disney built. I worked at Disney for 2 years and know the place fairly well. My husband is a pilot for American Airlines and I use our nonrev benefits for travel a lot. Our favorite place is Hawaii... esp. Kauai... and back home to So Calif!
If I can be of any help at all for your vacation to Central Florida (Disney, Universal, Kennedy Space Center) please just let me know! I will be more than happy to try and help.

Hello Debbie,
I live just a little west of you in Indian Ridge Subdivision. As you know, so close to Disney, you hear the fireworks from the theme parks at night. We also have a vacation rental home in Indian Ridge which we discount to airline employees and their families. We are NOT a management co. We rent on our own. Its 3 bedrooms and 2 baths with a private pool.
We love visiting Celebration. Its so peaceful sitting at the lake on the rocking chairs. We frequently eat at Market Street Grill in your beautiful town.
My husband works for Delta Airlines. 23 years now. We dont travel as much as you, but being from Chicago originally, we get back there often. Las Vegas is a yearly trip.

I work in Myrtle Beach so if I can ever help you with anything here let me know. My friend just got back from kuai and he said it was beautiful. Hi Mark... Sorry for being late... matter of fact, I think you are already here. I just saw your post today. Well.. I hope you found a good rate for a car.. and I hope you are not getting drenched by our rain. To tell you the truth, I have never checked into any discounts for rental cars here. The one thing I know is, if you rent a car in Florida, there is no drop off fee for leaving it at another location in Florida, which is nice for vacationers. I have been told the rates here are pretty good as it is so competitive... plus there are so many visitors that come here and do not rent a car becos of the Disney on-property transportation system. I feel bad that I missed your post... but please let me know if I can help in the future!

Well.. we are certainly neighbors! And.. I am sure you have noticed... the tourists are back...everything is as crowded as pre Sept 11th.. if not MORE! I dont think I have ever seen the crowds like they have been the last few weeks.. good for the Orlando ecomony, tho!
So glad you like our little town of Celebration. We eat breakfast a lot at the little diner... but rarely do the other restaurants. I hope you were able to brave the crowds for our 4th of July fireworks the other day. I think people came from all over the county! It was fun,tho, and I am glad we could walk and not deal with the tons of cars.

We will be down there next week. Mostly to see Family and Friends but will have a day to do a park or event. We have been to Disney more recently then Universal, let me know what you have heard about Universal's new rides. I see on the web site that Universal still has a Florida resident deal.
We also may try Sea World. Let me know if any deals are to be had at that park.
Looks like hotels should be no problem. On the internet the range of prices is amazing. Though suggestions or hotel info is appreciated.

Hi Coyne! So you are making that exciting drive from Pcola to ORlando?!! (Or maybe you are lucky and will be flying?!). I went to Universal with some visiting friends last month. They were here all week... I was cheaper for me to buy a year pass (if you bring a certain Florida lotto ticket you automatically get 2 years) that to pay for admission each day. I think my FL res year pass was 99.00... just not good on the weekends, which I would stay away from anyway. I now wish I would have forked over 20 or 30 more bucks for the one with the parking...as parking at Universal is 8.00 a day. Big mistake on my part.
As far as the new rides go... well.. I had only been to Islands of Adventure once 2 years ago, so I am not quite so sure as to what is new and old! I do know that on our 2nd time on the Dueling Dragons, I "grayed" out. Everything went dark on me, I thought the ride had stopped, and my friend said my eyes were open and everything. I have never had anything like that happen to me and it was weird... and I love roller coasters! I think we hit up every ride, so if you have any in particular that you want to know about, let me know.
I went to Sea World in January when they were letting all military and their families in for free... couldnt beat that! I really enjoyed it. Two of our neighbors are dolphin and umm.. I forget the other one... trainers. She let us and our friends (with 3 little girls who loved it) back to the training area and the girls got to play with the dolphins which was great. I will check on discounts and get back to you, ok?!

I'm thinking of travelling over there April/May next year - can you please let me know when your school holidays are and also with accommodation are there any holiday units or are hotels the best way to go - I'm coming from Australia with my family so the exchange rate for us is pretty pathetic at the moment!

Spring breaks are at various times here in the US... some starting as early as Feb and others in March or April. There should be some GREAT hotel rates to be had, tho. Try 407 W-Disney and ask them what interline (airline) rates they are offering. They release them at different times. Also, just ask the Cast Member what discounts they are offering for your dates. They have hotel rooms, condos and cabins. Also, there are plenty of condos off of property. Check out www.all-orlando.com. A GREAT Disney info website is
www.wdwig.com It has info on just about everything you could think of... even the menus for the restaurants at Disney.Good luck and let me know if I can be of any help.

I have a 3 bedroom 2 bath vacation home which I rent out at a discount to Airline employees and their families. If you go to my profile, you will see a link to my website. The home has a private pool, washer/ dryer, full kitchen and only 3 miles from Disneyworld. You asked about April or May 2003, I have availability in May, but April 12 to 26 is already taken.

Summer is here and nonrevving into Orlando will get tough! Dont forget that Tampa is only an hour away. You would have to rent your car there to drive to Disney, but in Florida, there is no drop off fee so you can leave it in Orlando. It is an option. Also, Disney just raised their ticket prices. Get your tickets in advance online and save some money! Let me know if I can be of any help!

Ditto Debbie's TPA idea. We've done it and it's easy!

We are going to be in Orlando next week and plan to go to Disney World. We are interested in 2-day hopper passes, but can only find them available online for conventions. Do you know if there is someplace we can purchase a 2-day "hopper" pass? Thanks.

I know of no place at all that you can purchase a 2 day hopper. The least I know of is a 3 day that I can get thru the military. Geez... that is a tough one.. hmmmm... the one day tickets are such a waste becos you really do not need a whole day at the Animal Kingdom and the Disney/MGM studios. Do you think you will EVER be coming back?? I am asking becos you can get a 4 day hopper.. and they do not ever expire. I will ask around and see if anyone I know can come up with anything for you.

We've seen some deals on Anheuser and Universal websites, but would appreciate your advice on best deals for the following -
Seaworld, Busch gardens, Adventure Island and the two Universal Parks.

The best deal going for Universal is to buy your tickets online. It is better than anything you can get here. You get 5 days for the price of two and it includes both parks. I have had friends come to visit and this is what they do. As far as SeaWorld goes... I do not know of any deals.. but I will check around, ok? I have to be honest.. I had never even heard of Adventure Island before and at first I thought you were referring to Island of Adventure at Universal.

I saw a deal online at Anheuser website for 5 park 14-day flexiticket for Busch Gardens, Seaworld, 2 Universal Parks, and Wet 'n' Wild for $214.95, so I thought that seemed like good value and we could pay for a day ticket at Blizzard Beach or Adventure Island. I will just have to do a bit more research but I reckon that might be chepear than the Universal 5 day deal, plus paying for days at the other parks. Hi Paul. I've only just read your post so it was too late for my trip. I bought the 14-day Anheuser ticket. It was good value but the Universal parks were so busy. We didn't like WetnWild as much as Blizzard Beach (although we didn't go there this trip). Best tip I can give anyone about Orlando is that Gaylord Palms is a fantastic place to stay. There's a link from ID90.com which gives a fantastic discounted rate (almost 50%). There's a $10 daily resort charge for which you get daily orange juice and water, internet access, a newspaper etc. It's in Kissimee and minutes from Disney. There was a Best of Florida festival every weekend that we were there, so lots going on. There are aligators from Gatorland swimming about in ponds in the grounds, which are truly lovely. Really can't recommend it enough.

Hello! My wife and I are planning on visiting "Disney" this summer for 2 or 3 days. My youngest son turns three in August, so we want to get there before he turns three...(it's free while they are still two, right?_
Anyway, we have two boys 21/2 and 4.....what do you recommmend??? Just a day in the Magic Kingdom and maybe one day somewhere else...Where would you recommend for that second day with two young boys? Is sea world worth it? Will they be too young?
Any help or advice would be great. Also I have seen hotels that have a king size bed..and a little divided area w/ kids area bed and tv..that sounds great.

Hi Tom,
I think Sea World is great for kids... we have taken friends with young children there and they love it. Lots of close up stuff for them to see. The other Disney park I would take them to would be the Animal Kingdom. It really is a great park with a fun kids section. You are very up close to the animals and it isnt like a zoo.
If you have any affilliation with the military, Sea World will be free for you and your family.

HEY DEBBIE! I NEED your help. I'm a newby to this but work for AMerica West Airlines. My parents want to go to Hawaii and I was recommended to have them purchase ZED fares?? Please Help me with this the really wanna go but I dont want them to get stuck. You said Hawaii was your favorite place to go so Please help me? What should I do as far as getting them to and from hawaii from New York? ANy city better then the other to go out of? Please let me know any info you may have!

Thanks for the info...We would probably only be there two 1/2 days....Sea World wouldn't be included in a two day Disney pass, right? If so that would be great..if not We would probably just stay with the Magic Kingdom to keep costs down.....If that is the case maybe one day at Magic Kingdom and where would you recomend the second day?

Disney World does not offer discounts on tickets to the theme parks. They do offer a discount on their onsite hotels, tho. They release the discounts when they see what their "loads" look like. Just call and ask for their airline employee discount! Good luck and have fun!

Both horse lovers -thinking Dixie Stampede Tues. night. Otherwise perhaps a theme park Tues. day, shopping Wed. Suggestions on hotel, rental car appreciated. We moved back to So Calif, but I think I can stil help you out! If you are doing the Disney thing, or the Dixie Stampede, I dont think I would stay up at I drive. Plus, the traffic and congestion there is so much worse than near Hwy 192. There is a great Holiday Inn Sun Spree Lake Buena Vistga that would be a great location for you guys. It is on Hwy 535 right near the freeway and close to the Dixie Stampede. Link is:

Also, I feel I should mention that selling, trading, bartering buddy passes are really frowned upon at most airlines.
