Parade details...
Okay folks here they are. I took this from the Trib.
Earlier in the day city officials said they had moved up the victory celebration to midday Friday.
Mayor Richard Daley announced the revised plan at a news conference...
Friday's events will begin at U.S. Cellular Field at 35th Street and Shields Avenue, officials said. Players, families and front office staff of the White Sox will leave from the ballpark in trolleys and double-decker buses about 11 a.m.
The motorcade will wend through Bridgeport, Bronzeville, Pilsen, Greektown and Chinatown before ending up at noon in front of the Board of Trade Building at LaSalle and Jackson Streets in the Loop.
The motorcade will re-form as part of a parade that will head north on LaSalle. In addition to whatever comes from windows of office high rises, confetti from cannons positioned along the street will launch shreds of paper.
The parade will end at a temporary stage set up at Wacker Drive and the Chicago River at the north end of downtown. The stage will face south on LaSalle. Fans will gather on the street and sidewalks east and west along Wacker and south down LaSalle.
At least two Jumbo Tron television screens will be erected along LaSalle so those who can't get close to the stage can see what is happening, said James Law, the city's special events director.
Speakers at the victory celebration are expected to include Guillen, Reinsdorf, Daley and selected players.
Law said the city also was "looking into" possibly having former Journey lead singer Steve Perry as a part of Friday's festivities. Journey was the band that recorded "Don't Stop Believin'" 24 years ago. Sox players adopted the tune as their unofficial theme song for their victorious 2005 season.
The rally is expected to wrap up around 12:45 p.m.
The specific motorcade route was still being mapped out this afternoon.
Below is a map of the downtown route only. (In case you're going to be in town.

http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif The numbers are in! http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
From the starting point at "the Joan" (I'll let you figure out that one), through a few of Chicago's Southside neighborhoods, 225,000 people lined the streets as the Sox made their way toward the downtown parade.
Once downtown, the parade and rally drew 1.75 millions fans http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif to Chicago's Financial District!
I was unfortunately at work.http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
This is thought to be the largest single gathering of Chicagoans ever. Not the end of WWII nor the Bears Super Bowl victory in the 80's drew more people than today. The last time so many Chicagoans gathered was to see HM Queen Elizabeth II on her first official royal visit to Chicago many years ago.

The Joan...the Joan....I'm going to need a hint. http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emotic...n_rolleyes.gif

Hint 2: Think U.S. Cellular. The company, not the ballpark.
-
-
Okay, well that blows the whole thing. The premise is that you know US Cellular.
The spokesperson for the company is Joan Cusack. When the company bought the naming rights to the ballpark a local sportscaster on NBC5 started calling it "the Joan". http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I thought it hysterical and picked up on it!

YOU KNOW YOU ARE A TRUE CHICAGOAN WHEN:
Vacation means going north or south on I-55 for the weekend.
You measure distance in hours.
You know several people who have hit a deer more than once.
You often switch from heat to AC in the same day and back again.
You can drive 65 mph through 2 feet of snow during a raging blizzard, without flinching.
You design your kids Halloween costume to fit over a snowsuit.
Driving is better in the winter because the potholes are filled with snow.
You know all 5 seasons: almost winter, winter, still winter, road construction, and It's Hot.
A brat is something you eat.
You go out to a tailgate party every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
You have more miles on your snow blower than your car.
You find 0 degrees(F) a "little chilly".
-
Wow! I finally get to ask a question of my learned esteemed fellow Correspondent.
Randy - we're talking North Michigan here, the mile, Water Tower etc. I've found 2 way excellent rates on Hotwire for what I've worked out to be the Knickerbocker and the Seneca. Would you suggest one over the other and why!?!?!?
And no - I'm not divulging the dates of stay unless someone else jumps in and nicks them !! http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Cheers mate - appreciate.
-
Ahh, he needs my help but won't divulge his dates??? For fear of what, I wonder? That I might call the hotel and warn them of his impending arrival? http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Both hotels have an excellent location. Both are clean and offer good service. But, both hotels are aging fast!
I don't think it matters which one you choose. I suppose, if pressed, I would take the Knickerbocker. It might be slightly better but not significantly.
Both hotels are decent but very basic and a little worn and tattered around the edges. Depending on what your "excellent rates" are then I'd say book it and just know that you won't be in the lap of luxury - but you will be mostly comfortable and in an excellent area.
Make sure you know your dates, Hotwire isn't always keen on date changes!
If you want to let me know when and how long I can give you a couple of touristy-type recommendations. The first of which is King Tut has returned to the Field until January.
-
Wow the Knickerbocker, does that bring back memories... proms, I'm talking about PROMS; http://bestsmileys.com/dancing/7.gif excellent location, near the Hancock Building. As I recall the Seneca was converted from apartments (don't quote me on that http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif), if I had to choose, like Randy, I would go with the Knickerbocker.
Unlike Al, I am willing to divulge my Chicago travel dates, June 5, 13, or 20 depending-- those Chicago flights are packed. Could you post info on the King Tut exhibit (reservations?)

More likely it has to do with outstanding warrants... you know how Al is. http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emotic...on_biggrin.gif http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emotic...on_biggrin.gif

Oh I know my dates alright, don't worry about that. The rates are more than $100 better than discounts at more established properties like Westin Michigan, Sheraton, Omni, so I'm not really all that fussed as it's the location more than anything that I'm interested in. Will take the Seneca I think - far bigger rooms, kitchenette and most importantly, on premise laundromat !! This will be about 2 weeks after arrival in Nth Am, so that will be more than handy by then.
Not interested in Tut - I mean, when you've seen the real thing in Egypt, been down all those crypts and the such as well as done the whole day at the Musuem in Cairo etc, it just wouldn't be the same. I'll be there the week before Thanksgiving for 2 days & nights, between Denver and D.C.
-
Hmm, Mig we may be getting somewhere! No wonder he was so secretive! He's admitted to rummaging around old tombs and you've heard rumors about outstanding warrants. I wonder if there's a reward? http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emotic...on_biggrin.gif
As for the Field you should try to buy your tickets on their site several days in advance. I don't think I'd just show up. A check on their site a few minutes ago shows most of this week already sold out and a claim of more than 200,000 advance tickets already sold. Even if you buy advance tickets be prepared for long lines and if possible I'd skip anything weekendish. www.fmnh.org
November in Chicago can bring a really mixed bag of weather. On one hand you could get some late Autumn warmth or you could be stuck in the middle of a snow storm. Just come prepared for anything.
It's a little early to tell what events you might have access to but the first that comes to mind is the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival, Saturday, November 18th. A day-long series of events followed by an evening parade and fireworks over the Chicago River. Schedule details have yet to be announced. www.themagnificentmile.com

Any idea where I might get some discount tickets to "Wicked"? http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Wicked at a discount? Not likely! Wicked is such a hit it's hard to get good tickets at full price. The only times I've seen advance discounts is when new shows are announced and the run is extended. The last time that happened was a couple of months ago. But this time they didn't discount, they just offered an advance sale at regular prices to certain subscribed customers. Sorry!

More info you might want to know.
