I just spoke to a res. agent at this hotel. Although they do offer an airline rate it is not $75.00 as Carl indicated.
The rate that was quoted to me as an Airline rate for a Fri and Sat was $135.00 per night + taxes. She was unaware of a rate lower than that.

The rate that I quoted was for over 6 months ago. San Francisco is a busy place during the summer. You should not expect the rate to be the same as it was when I posted a while back. And I foiund the rate located on ID90.com The blame is not all mine.

Hi Carl, could you please let me know if it is worthwhile taking a tour of Winchester House. We are coming over from Australia in September/October and with the exchange rate will cost about $A120.00 to do a tour of the house and behind the scenes tour. Thanks

Hey Carl, what do you know about the Presidio Inn of San Francisco (2361 Lombard St.)? Is it an okay place to stay? Their website looks good. I got a great interline rate there in October.

Hi Carl--
After reading all the informative posts regarding SFO I just wanted to check with you regarding the public transportation from SFO airport to SFO proper--say Fishermans Wharf. I have heard that they finished it--is this true and could you give me the scoop on where to go and how to do it--also approx costs? Would it be practical to stay in an SFO airport hotel and take the public transportation in everyday? (the airport hotels are much cheaper, but I'm going to check on some of the other places you recommended--they look good and have a reasonable --ie cheap--prices, too)
I haven't been to SFO in years and am taking the kids just before Thanksgiving so hopefully it will be cheaper and less rushed. WE don't mind if it's cooler. Any suggestions on places to eat that either are 1)someplace everyone should visit at least once OR 2) a personal favorite of yours--they don't have to be gourmet type places--just good food at good prices. Thanks for any help/info--Jean H/flyinlow

What's going on flyin low??? It is true, that they did begin BART service from the SFO airport into San Francisco and the rest of the system. It may seem practical to find great hotel discounts near the airport, however, rather I have lately found some really great 3 and 4 star hotel rates on hotwire.com and they are in the city. I would budget at least 3.25 per person to take BART from SFO into town. As far as places to eat, I would have to say that one of my favorite places to go is the Cheesecake Factory, located in Union Square on the sixth floor of Macy's. The prices are reasonable and the menu is 20 pages long. There are also forty different types of cheesecakes. If you want to be able to eat and enjoy activities, try Fisherman's Wharf, they have all of the waterfront activies and a number of waterfront seafood restaurants. If youe head take BART to the Powell Street station, you will be on Market Street, in the heart of all the shopping. There you can catch a the cable cars which will take you to Fishermans Wharf, or take BART to Embarcadero Station which places you in the Financial District which is a one mile walk to the Wharf along the waterfront. If you choose this option, make sure to get off of the train at Embarcadero, otherwise the next stop will be across the bay in Oakland. Anyway, if you need anymore help, just let me know. Are you planning on going to Alcatraz? If so I would recommend buying your ticket in advance (like as soon as you arrive). Every time I've tried to buy a ticket they are usually sold out for at least 1 if not 2 days.

There are a few hotels in the Fishermans Wharf area. The nice thing is that they are small and not big and crowded. The most in expensive would be the Best Western Fishermans Wharf, then next step up would be the Courtyard by Marriott Fish. Wh. followed by both the a Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express. All are currently advertising rates between 79 and 130 dollars per night, that is with the airline discount, just mention to the desk clerk that you are a DL employee. http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/hdst.gif
