I just got back from LAS but it wasn't your normal casino run. I was out there for my son's high school graduation. We took him to eat at his favorite restaurant, Claim Jumper. It has a rustic "mining" atmosphere. The building has huge timbers. The chairs are constructed from tree limbs. There are antler chandeliers etc. There is a large variety on the menu and the food is excellent. I had country fried steak and mashed potatoes. Whew, those mashed potatoes and gravy were to die for. But their signature is the huge portions on huge plates. Entrees are from the $10-$20 range but they don't mind if you share. One order is usually more than enough for 2 people. The desserts are just as huge. You can check out their web at http://www.claimjumper.com/ . They have locations in several western states. It is not real close to the strip in LAS so it might be a good excursion if you happen to be renting a car there.

Ahh.. you have discovered one of our favorite places to eat! Being from So Calif, I have been enjoying Claim Jumpers for.. oh.. since I lived across the street from one in Los Alamitos in 1986! You can gain some serious weight at a CJ cos everything they serve there is HUGE!! Now there is one a couple of blocks from my mom's house in Mission Viejo, so I always try and hit that one up!
wish they had them in Florida!
