I am from Mexico City. I personally know SJD, so I can recommend you some good hotels there. Let me check it for you, and I'll let you know asap. However, that place in particular is quite expensive for mexicans, For how long are you planning to stay there?

Ok, My birth place is Mexico City, and I live in Mexico City also. Regarding other major areas, well, we have plenty of places that you MUST visit. All depends on what do you need. My country has beaches, cities, archeological places such as pyramids (teotihuacan)......
And talking about money, I can assure you it will be cheap........

I hope someone can give me some advice . We will be going to Cancun next week and I havn't made hotel agreements as of yet. I have it narrowed down to the following
Caribbean Village, Oasis Cancun, Oasis Playa,
Sierra Hotel, Bluebay Getaway or Grand Oasis
We are going for teh all inclu. deal. Also depending on what flight we take (we can go either US AIR or Delta we have emplyoee flight benfits on both) we may spent a day in Mexico City. What should we see and do there and where should we stay. We don't want to rent a car.

I would like to plan a trip and am considering Mexico. I have off Oct. 23 through 29. I will be nonreving on DL from ATL with about 11 years seniority.
I checked some flights to Cancun and it looks like it may be doable since I can travel mid-week. But if I went there I would want to stay away from the party crowd. We might like to go do the night scene one night but prefer to be away from the crowds and tourists. I would also like easy access to nice beaches and snorkeling with some good coral reef. It also needs to be very economical. I would stay at a resort if it was a good deal but also enjoy more local establishments if it is nice, clean and has a good pool.
It seams like I remembering somewhere that you can drive to south of Cancun. I also read an article about Isla Mujeres (sp?). It sounded very laid back, out-of-the-way and economical but I think the coral was kind of dead from what I read.
Do you have any ideas for a good location that meets my criteria? If so, do you know of any good lodging with good rates? I would also need advice on transportation to and from the airport. Isn't there a ferry to and from Isla Mujeres from Cancun? TIA for any advice you can give.

My husbund And I just returned from cancun this past monday . WE also are Delta had no problem non rev seats wide open we also went mid week,. We stayed in cancun it self at Contiental Plaza that we got from www.ID90 for $110 per night AI. This was per room not per person. The serice at this hotel was outstanding. The Hotel itself is a 4 star and we stayed on advice from friends . I think the next time I will go up a notch and stay at the grand Oais or Cancun Palace only for the varitey offered in resturants (ours only had 2 open after 5 for dinner 5 before 5pm)and watersports offered at hotel . Ours had watersports but we had to go to the sister hotel the Serria to use . Not abig deal only 2 hotels down but still. We had a wonderful time and we are more laid back and not into the clubs Cancun is waht you make of it they have something for everyone. We heard about Isle Mujuers once down there. WE go to fish and booked some wonder charters from Carlo's and Charlies dock. But next time we will stay on Isle Mujuers where they are known as a fishing paridise! esp. big game.The beaches are wonderful as the resorts you won't find as many AI but more luxury. below are some helpful links I had .Puerto Isla Mujeres Resort & Yacht Club will pick you up in Cancun and transport you to the island in there private charter boat this is part of your room fee. THey will transport you back and forth if you want to visit Cancun during your stay also.

I forgot transportion to and from airport. once you clear customs you will be herded down a hallway you have no choice and there will be a TON of services RUNNING to book you on there Vans. One is the same as the next unless you want a limo. It will be around $18 US for two people to a hotel in the hotel zone of Cancun. Bus service in Cancun is wonderful 60 cents US no matter where you go . If you take a taxi around town get the fee agreeded upon up front.We never had a need the buses run 24 hr 7 days a week. Youd on't even have to be at a stop they see you walking and stop in the middle of road to pick you up. Now going back to the airport take the taxi . Buses are not permitted to go to airport.It was $17 US for 2 people from our hotel. These rates are controlled by goverment ( most are and posted in the hotel lobbys).When leaving to go home leave yourself 2 hours at least the airport is small and delta only had one gate ad most us airlines and they only check in one flight at a time. You WILL be searched. They have tables set up before you even get to the ticket counter( you can't go staight to gate as in us even will printed ticket).At these tables they WILL go through ALL your luggage checked and carry on item by item. If the lines are long you can imagine how long this takes. We were frist in line got cleared and walked around for 2 hours had a drink etc. until it ws time to board as opposed to standing in a line. Once you go through x-ray the gates are not what you are used to. When you go to the gate no counter or rep. You get onto a bus and are taken to the plane and no jet way you do the steps.I had items taken off me I had't here in states... Batteries I was only allowed 2 had to give up the rest, eye glass repair kit taken also.One more bit of advice take Fabreeze or Lysol spray and OFF with you. THe air freshner for you room ... Ours had a musty moldy smell which we requested be sprayed daily. We thought it was just our room but found out it was not. We thought it was due to fact of all the rain and the hotel made made out of cement . Upon talking to people at airport it is all the htoels I guess it is the humdity and rain . The OFF spray yourself if you go out after sundown . THe bugs are horrible this time of year. (Hurrican season.) This was the only over priced item we saw during our stay $10 for a small can. We had freinds advice us and we were ready. If you plan on calling home don't buy a phone card before you leave it won't work in your hotel room. Only public phones marked LADEL which you will find on the corners. Most hotels sell phone cards in the lobby that will work but we used my cell phone. I have Verizon and it ws very simple. I had to get the lasted roaming update down loaded I dailed * something ( it is on ther web site) then dail * 611 have international dailing opened on your account. Once you leave the states change over to side A and you are set to go . It was only 65 cents a min. Just remember as soon as you clear the states air space to cahnge back to side B. I am certain any cell phone company will have the same option as a friend did same with ATT.

Well, first of all, Here is one good advice:
Can you book yourself from ATL to MEX and then using Aeromexico's code share from MEX to CUN? Because the flight from ATL to CUN is ALWAYS overbooked and I've noticed that you hate crowded places. So, if you are able to do that, AM has 5!!! daily flights to CUN with DL codeshare.
Second. Talking about a quiet place, mmmmhhh I don't think CUN is such a good idea, maybe you can try other places like Cozumel, or Playa del carmen. I guess Playa del Carmen is a good option however we might have to check rates.

I was hoping to find something significantly lower than $100 a night. If I can't, I may book a cruise that I put a hold on yesterday. It is a 7 night cruise for $199 + taxes... comes out to $24? per person.

About 1 hour south od cancun
Playa del Carmen is still a beachcombing sort of place. But it's growing and changing rapidly. Its location on the northeastern coast of the Yucatan Peninsula has made it a convenient jumping-off point for cruise-ship passengers who want to tour Maya ruins on the mainland or visit its better-known neighbors, Cancun and Cozumel. But Playa is gradually becoming fashionable for its own attributes, too-mainly white-sand beaches that are calmer and less crowded than those in Cancun and Cozumel.
Taxis line up at the Playa ferry dock for those wanting to go off on their own. Tours can be arranged for US$30-$50, depending upon the amount of time requested. Don't hesitate to bargain, and agree on a price before departure.
Public buses travel from Playa north to Cancun and south to the ruins at Tulum-expect to pay around US$8 to either destination. Two bus services, Inter Playa and Playa Express, run along Highway 370 between Playa and Cancun.

To get to your hotel from the airport in cancun you can not take a taxi they are regualated by goverment and not permitted to pick up at airport but they can drop off. Strange but true. When you get by customs you have no choice but to exit down a hallway LOADED with van sevice it is AVG $8 a person US to your hotel longer distance is about $15 per person. Coming back to hotel you must take a taxi. It is about $17 US for 2 from the hotel Zone and people we talked to at airport paid $20 to airport for 2 another paid $24 their hotel a little further south from Playa Del Carmen .

I have booked a room for 5 nights on Isla Mujeres at a small local establishment - the kind I usually prefer: <a href="http://sundreamers.com/mim/marina.htm" target="_blank">http://sundreamers.com/mim/marina.htm</A>
It only has 10 rooms and I've been told we are currently the only ones booked. They have actually lowered the rate from $45 to $35. It is on the West side of the island facing CUN where the water is always calm. I learned that the east side is towards the open Caribbean and wavy - some parts are rocky and not suitable for swimming at all. I almost got a place for about the same price that was walking distance from downtown. The most popular and most crowded beach, Playa Norte, is close to downtown. Our cab fare to go downtown is only about $3 and it looks like there will be plenty of $1 beers and good inexpensive food as well. There is a place called Garrafon Park that is supposed to have good coral reef. There is a turtle farm, places to swim with sharks [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif[/img] and dolphins [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif[/img] , some Mayan ruins and some other things that sounded interesting as well.

Que paso SENOR MIGUELITO, y yo hablo Espanol. I was recently in Mexico City a couple of months ago. I was impressed in the METRO system there. It is very fast and seems quite reliable. Most all people I work with are scared to death to visit Mexico, probably because most do not speak the language and are probably intimidated. They mainly go to CANCUN where Spanish doesn't have to be spoken, and cater to American tourist.
To me, MEXICO CITY is the BEST place to visit in Mexico. I have been all over. Merida, Acapulco, but Mexico is the grandest of them all. The only turn off I have of Mexico is the 43 dollar departure fee. If it weren't for that, I would be going down there more often. I stayed next to the ALEMEDA PARK at hotel Bamer. Old but cheap and adequate. Got to see the Zocalo and the main square, but I messed up and didn't get to see TEMPLOR MAYOR. If I had known it was just beyond the Catedral, I would have walked there. Ok, Later. I saw Bellas Artes, and though this was not my first time in Mexico City, it won't be the last time either. Each visit brings on new interest. I plan to go to TEOTIHUACAN next visit. The food is out of this world. They sure know how to eat in Mexico. Cuidate paisano. Muchas gracias.

I work for American Airlines and we are planning a trip, over Christmas, to Cancun or Cozumel.
We are travelling with our toddler, who will be 18 months old at the time of the trip; and my mother in law.
We are looking for accomodations that will be child-friendly and were we can have a seperate room from my mother in law (like a condo).
Any suggestion?
