Hi. I want to nonrev to Kona from PHX or LAX in the third week of June. Anyone know what days, airlines are the easiest for nonrev travel at that time? Any suggestions or hints would be appreciated. This will be my first nonrev attempt to Hawaii. I have heard a few horror stories and don't want to torture my family too badly. Thanks.

Honestly, June is a horrible time to try to nonrev to the islands!!! School is out and everyone is taking that first vacation of the summer. I've successfully done it in June but it took me 3 days - I was bumped off of 2 airlines and about 15 total flights! I'll never try it again! The rest of the summer is okay - we've never had any problems. July after the Independence Day peak is doable. The absolute best times are mid-September thru October and again in mid-January thru mid-February.
If you decide to try it just keep a close eye on flight loads. Traffic is down considerably to Hawaii - which may be your salvation.
By the way LAX has more airlines that offer more flights to Hawaii than any other airport in the country.
