I'm going to New York for the first time in mid-august.
But I'm having trouble finding a good hotel that also has nice airline rates.
Been faxing and e-mailing lots of hotels for a couple of days now but not a single reply so far... :-(
Anyone got some good recommendations?

Try the NewYorker. Its opposite Penn Station and very easy to get to using the Subway from JFK ( generally quicker than buses/taxis, a lot less stressful and you don't get ripped off ). Its not the newest hotel in NYC but good enough and a good location for the subway. Email the hotel directly on 'reservations@nyhotel.com' for rates ( I got USD 87.50 + tax in May ). Its also worth checking their website for offers at http://www.newyorkerhotel.com/.

I had stayed in NYC for New Year's at Pickwick Arms Hotel, http://www.pickwickarms.com/. Rate was $75 + tax a night. The rooms are small, but not bad. Great Location!!! Very close to Times Square and Central Park. Make sure you bring your own shampoo and soap. Have a great trip!!
