Going to Maui Aug 3-10th. I would like to non-rev but United has tickets out of LAX for $392 rt. Is this non-rev "Black Hole" still in full force at that time? Would like to non-rev out of PHX but I figure LAX is my best bet. I want to know if I should jump on these United tickets or roll the non-rev dice.
Thanks

Yes, HNL is still a black hole. Getting to HNL is always easy as the United 777's are almost never full but getting back is where we have problems. They seem to have a convention every other week and those late night flights back to the mainland are always full. I was able to make it on my first try last year but it was very stressfuf. I met people who were non-reving and was in the airport from early morning only to get the 10pm flight that night. The only good thing with united is that u could route yourself to SFO with an LAX ticket and then get a ticket from SFO-LAX on united which seems to have a flight every 30 mins. Me personally, I would always non-rev because I have friends who live in Waikiki and the shuttle bus are usually under $10 but if you have thing to do then go confirmed. Again, they have so many WW2 conventions that you have be be carefully when you plan on flying out because all you will see at the airport are retired men and women in war uniforms oh, and a million United Employees non-reving.

Hi Mshawe welcome aboard. JUMP on the tickets, save yourself all the stress. http://www.nonrev.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Tip--from a recent returnee, don't forget your Costco card, cheapest place to buy gas.
Keep'em flying

I would second that motion to purchase the confirmed tickets out of LAX. It is so hard to non-rev these days and Hawaii seems impossible especially during the summer. I have been extremely fortunate in that I have always made my flight from the East Coast to Hawaii but I go in September which is considered "off or slow season" and even then, the flights have been packed.
This September I am taking my neice for her birthday but I purchased confirmed tickets since I knew that it would be harder to non-rev with a "companion".
Have fun and enjoy your trip..... it takes the fun out of the trip when you have to constantly worry about the flight loads.
