Alaska Airlines flies to Hawaii
Now that a code-share marketing arrangement between Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines has expired, the northern carrier is announcing plans to offer regular service between its Seattle hub and Honolulu and Kauai. "Hawaii is the largest market out of Seattle and Anchorage that we didn't already serve," says Gregg Saretsky, Alaska Airline's executive vice president of flight and marketing.

Wow, Chris, you got the news out before I could! We will offer 1 flight daily from SEA to HNL and 1 flight SEA to LIH starting in October. We will also provide seasonal service ANC to HNL starting in December. This market was so popular with our customers that the fare sale we instituted to announce service nearly brought phone/internet lines down! The sale was for 3 days starting on Thursday morning and all of the seats allotted for the sale were gone before 12 noon on Friday! According to corporate, we sold 40,000 seats in the first day and a half. Me, I booked using the positive space passes we have for travel next spring break. Nonrevving on these flights is expected to be very difficult.

SEA-LIH will be weight restricted and even more difficult to get on.

Just a little follow up on the weight restriction to LIH. Corporate says we will weight restrict this flight by 10-15 seats per flight. Keep that amount in mind when the agent is giving you flight load percentages. This plane holds 141 people in coach so this is a restriction of up to 10 percent. The flights to HNL will not have the same restriction.

Yes, they've kept no secrets...AS is determined to build the Hawaii market like they built on the Mexico market. Speaking go of Mexico, new year-round non-stop from Seattle to Cancun is coming along with 4 x per week out of SFO. LAX daily non-stop will continue as usual.
