Anyone have any brilliant ideas to get a decently priced car rental one way from Seattle to Portland (or)?
The best I can find is nearly $400 for 6 days for a compact.
I've tried carrentals.com, expedia, kayak, orbitz, budget, avantage, enterprise, avis, and a couple other sites...
Try going thru the UK websites for Avis, Hertz and Alamo etc and see what prices you get for comparison ( not forgetting to convert from GBP to USD of course http://www.nonrev.net/forums/style_e...#>/biggrin.gif ).
Car hire in the US tends to be inflated by the excessive additional amounts they charge per day for insurances/collision damage etc ... the UK sites don't charge for this separately and generally give an all-inclusive price. You'll have to pay in Sterling but using a credit card that shouldn't be a problem.
I think drew is running into companies with drop-off charges. I tried ez car but they only have sea, not pdx--sorry.
I'd try thru the links on interline companies and/or call and ask waiving drop off charge
Keep calling--you may get lucky. Big companies first...
FYI, we ended up picking up and returning to SEA. I pricelined a rental for $145 for 6 nights. The base rate I "won" was $14 per day, the rest went to various taxes and fees.
I just couldn't justify paying an additional $270+ to drop off in Portland.
