The Annual Midlothian Gardening Report

First of all to Meg, I pulled out your old cabbage soup recipe today. I picked an absolutely huge head of cabbage and made stops in the garden at the tomatoes, peppers (green, yellow and mild jalapeno) and sweet basil. I threw in a few other store-bought items; its on the stove simmering as I write this. Smells good!

Our cold, wet spring really reeked havok this year. The weeds were so plentiful and grew so fast that I nearly gave up and tilled the whole thing under. But with lots of sweat Ive managed to save a few things. Lost were the squash, zucchini and beans, but the rest, including cauliflower, finally took off.

Tomorrow I plan to pick my 2nd rather large head of cauliflower for a very tasty, highly fattening soup. If anyone wants to look at the recipe I'll be glad to post it.
