Replacement Quiz - Down Under style !

While Migflanker Trebeck goes out to do some prospectin' (which raises the question, for what? Gold Real Estate, Oil??!!) I'll step in with a quiz of my own.
I've shown I can answer questions on the U.S. Industry, so let's see how you guys go with my part of the world - albeit with a "hometown" twist for you Northern Hemisphereans !!

1 - In the past, QF named it's various routes. While the Kangaroo route has been around since the 30's (AU to Europe) and is still affectionally called that, what route was QF's "Fiesta Route" ? (No longer operates)

2 - Air N.Z. is known by it's 2 letter code of NZ. However, the International flights of NZ have only used that code over the past 12-15 years - domestic flights have always had NZ, but International flights used to use .... ??
(Hint - came from their original name Tasman Empire Airways Limited or TEAL).

3 - QF has served the USA since taking over BCPA. What cities current and past have QF served in the USA ?

4 - QF was until 1993 a "PanAm" of the south. It was the single designated flag carrier of Australia, limited to International operations only. In 1993 it purchased Australian Airlines (nee TAA or Trans Australia Airlines) and became the biggest carrier in Oceania and SE Asia in one sweep after being one of the smallest for many years. This surprises many who have always thought QF were the largest airline here. During most of the 50's thru to early 90's, what airline was by far the largest in this region?

5 - QF at one stage during the 70's & 80's served no less than 8 Euro cities. Name them.

6 - Ansett Australia Airlines, via it's parent, at one stage owned 27% of which U.S. major ??

7 - True or False - QF has never had a passenger fatality?

8 - Early in the 1990's not one or two but *FOUR* U.S.A. carriers all served Australia at the same time. Name them. (There are two answers to this so I will accept either!)
BONUS POINT - Over history, 6 U.S. carriers in total have served this region via scheduled service. Name the two others that are not part of the first part of the question.

9 - The pure jet age came to Australian *domestic* routes in 1966. What aircraft type was it that had the honour of introducing pure jet service to Oz domestic ? (Make and model please !!!!)
(QF had been operating 707's on International routes since the late 50's/early 60's)

10 - QANTAS is actually an acronym and has been that way since 1919, making it the second oldest continually operating airline name in the world, behind KLM. (So it should read Q.A.N.T.A.S.) What does QANTAS stand for??

9. 727 (in 1964) the DC9 was in 1967.

4. Logic tells me it probably was a carrier based in Asia. But this also sounds like a trick question with one of those "who would have thought it" type answers, so I'm going "off the board" and say BA.

Another rigged question, way too broad. I want partial credit- I'm assuming they would go to all the capitals, so I'll go with London, Madrid, Athens, Berlin, Vienna, Rome, Paris and..and..and.. *mind drifts back to earlier in the week* we're driving through the Mojave Desert, the outside temp is hovering around 104 and we are looking for an arrow that will direct us to a fan shaped cactus standing next to a wash...what's really strange? My advisor is mumbling something about Continental Micronesia planes flying into LAX for heavy maintenance some years ago, so I'll throw that in for more bonus points.

9. I had no idea about this one so I enlisted the aid of my jet engine expert, who after thinking for a while said "1966... go with the 737-100, no, the 727! So 727 is my answer.

It's been a week, so here's the answers for all.

1 - Vicky had it spot on. SYD-AKL-PPT-ACA-MEX-JFK-LHR. There was also a time where Bermuda replaced JFK on the route as well.

2 - TE

3 - HNL LAX SFO and JFK

4 - Ansett Airlines. At one stage, Ansett itself or Ansett Transport Industries (the parent) owned Ansett, Ansett NSW, MMA/Ansett WA, AnsettNT, Kendell, Eastwest, Ansett New Zealand, Ansett Pacific Island Services, Ansett Flying Boats & Ansett Helicopter Services to name a few. Then there were the ancillary services such as the 100% franchise for Avis rent a car in AU, 100% franchise for Diners Card in AU, a hotel empire, bus/coach operations, resorts - the list goes on. A true empire & Reg Ansett a man decades ahead of his time, but the crux of the question was the fleet approaching more than 100 units when all aviation entities were combined. Huge for this area at the time.

5 - LHR AMS MAN FRA PAR ROM ATH & BEG

6 - Good ole Cactus or America West was the one.

7 - False. QF has lost 93 souls over the years, albeit mainly in the early early days. There have been no fatalities in the jet age (post 707/late 50's) nor in the few years before that.

8 - AA UA CO & HA all served here at the same time in the very early 90's. NW took over HA's route authority not long after and of course venerable old PA flew here for many years before selling their Pacific routes to UA.
I guess Air Mike could be considered, but in the strict sense it's a part of CO anyway.

9 - On yer Mig !! 727-100.

I think this one is easy (or a little too easy). But my guess is Frontier. Each tail is painted with a different animal from the different regions of the U.S. they fly.
