Working second jobs?
I'm about to rejoin the airline industry, I left about 2 years ago for some stability and have been looking back ever since. I'm really happy to be back (assuming the final steps go through); the lifestyle, the travel, it's just in me for good. At the same time, that financial stability may be reduced again, and I'm seriously considering bolstering the income with a second part time position.
Does anybody here work a second gig to supplement things, or maybe it's the airline position that's the supplement? How do the logistics work for you? Is it a big hiccup with your travel plans?
Anyway, good to be back.

Looking at today's economy, the airlines isn't the only thing that is deemed unstable. In fact, we have profited substantially in the past couple of years since our merger while other buisnesses have layed off or closed down. We have enjoyed stability with our airlines of CAL prior to the merger, and don't forsee much change under the merger with UAL. After 9/11 it got a little hairy but it picked up once again. People need to travel for a healthy economy. UAL announced that they were shutting down CARGO department. That's a done deal by the end of this month. Stability for cargo came on the negative side for them suddenly. Cargo people get to have bumping rights to the ramp which sent a few shock waves to the ramp side as well. UAL will farm out, (Outsource) cargo to outside bidders I assume. So some people have 20 plus years working in cargo, and suddenly, they have to either retire, quit, look for another job or try to use bumping rights to the ramp. Sounds alot to what happens in everyday buisness America.

Welcome back!
I just work the airline job, and do not make much.
I will not say what, but it's not too far above the poverty line for family of 3.
My wife does not work, but can substitute teach if needed.
We are able to make it because we have zero debt except for our mortgage.
Our car is paid for
We also do not have smart phones, cable tv, etc.
We very rarely eat out.
I am fine with the salary because of the perks......we have taken over $40,000 in flights this year, and still have many more coming.

Thanks guys. I'll be playing it by year (ear?) as soon as I'm in the door.
