I worked for TWE there in 1997/1999. Quite a place!
Most beautiful other than the architecture and design:
no rollaboards
no charger stations
no fast-food counters
clean rest rooms (a phenomenon at JFK, period)
no loud, yappy suits on cel phones/bluetooth devices
no mindless texters wandering around
no clueless teens in suggestive/dirty clothes (texting mindlessly, too)
no one using F this and F that, as standard grammar
no bird poop
no masses sitting at gates waiting for announcements they can't hear on the PA
Oh, the joy of the "olden days"!!
Don't forget nonrevving on wide open 747, L1011 & DC-10 flights to the from short-haul to Caribbean, Europe and transcon flights.
I wasn't around in those days, but I think I would keep my sanity much better if that's how things worked today. I hate to admit it, but going somewhere fun because you want to is great, but going somewhere not so fun because you have to sucks......and then throw TSA/Delays, etc on top of that.......maybe 300K miles/year over appx 320 days is a bit too much..
You got that right! Going someplace that's not so great because you have to sux.
Headed back to west Africa any time soon?
My last 3 trips in a row have been ruined by mechanicals.......2 ASA's and a Trans States.....but on the plus side, thanks to rental car confusion I ended up driving around the flightline in a Mustang..
Sigh, wide open flights are so long gone. People use that term now when the plane has 20 open seats and 10 people on the standby list on the date of departure. I wish I could have been around back in those days.Quote:

You could go into an airline ticketing office/counter at the hotel and pick up your

You carried a paper ticket - with carbons (yes C-19, carbons) :cool:
You carried Travelers Checks
You had plenty of legroom in coach.
You got a full 3-course meal on flights over two hours (even in coach).
You got hotel recommendations from gate agents who always knew the hotel with the best rates near the airport
And
Remember when
The captain would come back (full uniform) and walk the cabin shaking hands.
On the other hand, some things never change
Getting the middle seat
Bumped off that last flight of the day
Sweating out that last second arrival
and
Taxi drivers taking "the wrong way round”.
OH--Paper tickets with red carbons!! Scrub Passes!! We had those until about years ago for French arrival airports. We used to rub the face of our nonrev/employee plastic cards to imprint them on the tickets, then fill out the details by pen.

Uh huh, the official plastic ‘space available travel and ID card‘, red carbons and those
4-flight coupons.
Best perk- checking in for your flight and going back home to wait -now I really miss that.
Hey now, even in my day as a gate agent I've filled out FIMs and sent pax on their way w/ carbons.
What's kind of funny is that some charter flights I work come complete w/ handwritten bag tags and boarding passes, or better yet, hard plastic boarding passes......and of course no computers for pax checkin..
