Had to look up PVU. My first thought Provo (PLS), Turks & Caicos. Bit too far for an MD-88!
Good to see they're getting some action again after F9 ditched out. I think they were the first (and at the time, only) ever commercial airline to serve that airport. I actually did a computer mapping project for a geography class to see which cities could sustain a new airport based on population and proximity to an existing (commercial) airport. Provo was one result, along with (off the top of my head) Sheboygan, WI, Topeka, KS, and Kokomo or West Lafayette, IN.
Kokomo. That's where I want to go to get away from it all. Way down in KOKOMO.
Heh, I've got a friend who lives there. He's got a funny story about that, but I think it's best if I reduce it down to a few bullet points.
- Friend just gets license
- Friend offers stranger a ride
- Friend finds out stranger is a bit... intoxicated, and not by alcohol (and probably not a soft drug, either)
- Eventually, stranger asks where all those beaches are
- If I remember correctly, stranger came from quite a way away (I think Atlanta?) in search of these beaches.
Every now and then you get people that mix up Manchester, NH (MHT) with Manchester, UK (MAN). Or Sydney, NS, Canada (YQY) with Sydney, Australia (SYD)
If you do, PLEASE act all confused as if you thought you were in Australia. Asking why the flight was so short, and why they have the maple leaf everywhere in Australia.
Talking about geographically challenged
Once flying into L.A. I witnessed a small riot when it was announced that due to heavy fog we would be landing at Ontario Airport instead of LAX.
“Canada, we’re going to Canada…they can’t find any place closer that Canada to land the plane?”.
“I’m sure not taking a bus from Canada back to LAX.”
The FA had to get on the PA to explain that Ontario airport is in the US, just outside of L.A. and that the bus ride would be about an hour.
No passports needed.
