Allegiant to End Service to HNL

Allegiant Airlines has announced it is ending all service to Hawaii and as a result will retire the last Boeing 757-200.The company started service to the 50th State in June 2012 from FAT and LAS and has been downsizing the number of routes to the islands. Due to rising costs, the company will exit the Hawaii market in early September 2016 when it drops the last route to HNL. The last 757 will exit the fleet in early 2017.
Employees in Hawaii will be relocated.

"Speaking on background, an Allegiant executive said a decision was reached to retire the company's five twin-engine Boeing 757 jets when they accumulate enough hours to require a D check."

"Rather than bear the expense of the heavy maintenance, the company opted to retire the planes since there's virtually no aftermarket for the used 757s."

That is a questionable statement - Air Freight FEDEX and UPS would grab these up just like the 767s nearing retirement to convert to freighters
"BUT" certainly not with a deal breaking "D" maintenance check - then again if the price is right - a bargain be had - they won't be going
to the Arizona pieces and parts boneyard - The 757 Phoenix will fly some more as freighters. The "D" maintenance check is the perfect time to
convert the passenger airplane to a freighter but don't let the Allegiant dart throwing part time route specialists know that ! Let me see if it is
