Using United Benefits

Hello all,

Next weekend I'll be using my United benefits for the very first time. I've had DL benefits in the past (long ago Skyway/Midwest, too) so I'm not completely lost about the process. However, I booked myself next weekend for a Dulles-ORD flight in first class. Currently there are 8 seats cap., 5 booked and 3 NRSA in F and 40 seats cap., 5 booked and 1 NRSA in C class. What happens if I'm listed in F but it fills up? Will the gate agent automatically seat me in C or Y? Also, is there any way to determine where exactly one falls on the standby-removal list with the other NRSA's? For example, a flight with 10 seats and 15 non-revs, can I look to see if I'll be 1-10 or 11-15?

United will normally downgrade you if 1st is full. But, they will not automatically upgrade you to 1st if coach is full.
If I am flying united and it is iffy for coach I will list for 1st and let the gate agent know I would like coach if there is a seat-I have to pay extra for flying 1st class on United. But, best thing is to sign up for 1st and if you do not want to pay the extra fee let the gate agent know to downgrade you if there are seats.

No way of knowing where you fall (I think the new phone app shows this but I do not have that type of phone). Once the merger is complete the new united system should show you where you fall.

I can confirm that United's app for Android (and I'm 99% sure iOS) will show where you are on the list - it works just like those gate display monitors, except they simply say if first and economy are available or not (as a yes or no, not an actual number). However, you can get an idea by looking at the seat map (also on the app). At that point, most people would have checked in and have their seat assignments, so it's actually reasonable to do that compared to as a way to plan which flight to take.

Does United have a specific non-rev app or are u referring to the general UAL app.

I can't seem to find any seat availability or non-rev listing on the general app. :/

It's the generic UAL app, but you have to have a listing (possibly eticketed) and then you can check loads for your flight when you check in. You can also change your flight, and that shows loads for that as well.
