With all the hoopla in the airline industry lately, just when we thought we were all on the right track to revive our industry after the downturn of 9/11... oil is on track for $200/barrel --- I have decided that I need to get out and get a career that is a little more stable. I will be leaving Delta at the end of the summer and returning to school pursuing a career in nursing.

I had hoped to stay at Delta part-time, but our station manager has proven by his antics with our schedules that I cannot work at Delta and go to school...So, so long Delta and to my interline discounts...lol...

Maybe after school I can return part-time somewhere and with it not being my only bread and butter I can go back to enjoying the aviation industry again!!

I will be almost 40yo by the time I graduate and take my state boards so I should have 20+ good years of working at a place with a pension so I wont be grasping for jobs in my retirement years...I know nothing is guarenteed but some indsutries are better off then others...

You can still access friends and family discounts, when offered, from interlinetravel.com
maybe that will help soothe your withdrawal!
Thank you for serving with Delta. Good luck with your nursing program! All of us need caring medical professionals. I hope it works to your advantage and you're rewarded for your efforts--monetarily and personally. I bet you still have a few friends with buddy passes! Take care of yourself and hopefully, you wpn't have to take care of any of us!!

Wayne good luck in nursing school. Nursing is a wonderful profession, you'll make a difference in someone's life everyday.
And Wayne, I still expect to see you around here, you got my humor.

Good luck on your new career. I started my new career with DL when I was 49. Actually I first applied in 1960 and then again in 1984 ( I knew somebody working at DL) and was hired (after 24 years). I was lucky and was able to reitire after 12 years...still enjoying ALL the travels.

    Hi DeltaFlyer,

I feel your pain. If I had stayed a little less than a year longer, I would have qualified for a package with lifetime flight benefits or at least that's how I understood it -- if years of service plus age was equal to 60 or more. And now the two people who offered me buddy passes are leaving

Oh well. I'm loving my new job. I think I'm fortunate that in the last 5 years with Delta I got into the web stuff. I learned a skill that will transfer to about anywhere. Everyone has a website these days. I'm now working at a Christian ministry and while I love travel and the airline industry, I feel that I'm doing something even more meaningful... at least to me.

Good luck with your new endeavor! Do keep coming and let us know how it goes.

    That does stink.

I find myself in the situation that this industry is just pulling me in. I can only hope for the best, and I know there are safer choices out there, but I just may be hooked. Although, I look to move away from Cust. Service within the next couple years.

Should you ever need any buddy passes, let me know.
