Hello All,
I just got some great news!! My husband will be working in Singapore from Oct 19th through November 17th and I've rearranged (read ruined) my schedule so I can join him. Since he is traveling for business he will have the luxury of holding a business class ticket, most likely on Cathay, UAL or Singapore out of SFO.
I on the other hand, will be traveling on a ZED ticket and have far fewer options to choose from. My options are CI, CO, BR, KE, NW, US and UA. I am an FA and can jumpseat myself to pretty much any city in the US in order to get there but I am ideally hoping to maybe get on the same flights as my husband. Which leaves him w/ UA out of SFO or ORD.
That said if anyone has suggestions on the best way to get to SIN from the the states I am all ears.
Also just a general idea of what I can expect traveling on a ZED ticket international would be good info to have as well.
I recently traveled w/ a ZED ticket to LIH on UA from DEN and had the luck of sitting first class and then had premium coach on the way back. It was fantastic. It made the 6hr flight go by so quickly. Definitely more appealing then traveling coach (although any seat is a good seat, it is great when gate agents look out for us fellow industry grunts:).
Any ideas as to which airlines are more likely to upgrade than others. I've flown AA and US both and never had the luxury of an upgrade. Instead I have the luck of getting the middle seat next to MR. Forgot to shower this morning while enjoying the view of the empty seats up front. But we've all been there.
I know it is a little early to be looking at numbers but if anyone could give me loads for the UA flights to SIN on October 19th out of SFO and ORD (I think SFO connects in NRT and ORD connects in HKG) I would really really appreciate it.
Also since nonrevving is always a crapshoot I have suggested my husband take whichever flight sounds better. So which would you take business class? Cathay? United? Or Singapore? ..... if only... http://www.nonrev.net/forums/style_e...DIR#>/wink.gif ...

Hands down Singapore Air. I understand their coach is better than most domestic business class!
I have several business friends who work/travel Asia and they LOVE Singapore. One has flown Cathay FC, but I was terribly disappointed (my leg was NRT/HKG tho, so it wasn't the transpac long haul) with their busness class.
Have a great time!!! I bet it will be worth a ruined month's schedule.

SQ is not a ZED member and you'll need to get ID tickets for their flight (provided your airline has agreement). I'm not sure how ZED works in US (I've heard people say its a blank ticket that lets you fly within the tickets range) but in Asia, you pretty much need your ZED tickets specifying the exact port.
If you are coming from SFO, suggest you do CX as HKG-SIN is quite frequent everyday so that'll be SFO-HKG-SIN. I don't like CX as I find their seats a bit cramp (not good for tall people) but its just a few hours that you have to struggle with. I find myself flying them more than I want to mainly due to timing.
Date wise avoid Oct 1 to Oct 12 week as its a holiday in China/HK/SE Asia ( a bunch of various public holiday falling during these period) also thanksgiving week. Otherwise there's not much holiday that will fill up the seats

I think the spouse was going to travel on business account real, confirmed seats--so I suggested Singapore if the co will spring for it! I think the poster is going to join husband in the middle of his biz, yes?

Yep! My hubby gets to fly confirmed, real nice expensive seats. Me I have to get there by whatever means I can find. I have limited ZED options. Whatever I listed above. As an update the hubby went w/ UA in the hopes that maybe I can manage a seat on the same flights.

CX flights from SFO to HKG is half full these days, and it's two flights a day. Should be pretty easy to nonrev, I just travlled this leg in Sep. Obviously no upgrade at all.
For the HKG-SIN leg, there are 5 flights from CX and 6 flights from SQ, again pretty easy to go. The problem is in HKG CX will need to check in at aisle A/C while SQ is on F or something.

I wish I had CX as an option but unfortunately it is not. My airline has no agreements whatsoever w/ CX or SQ. Which is a real bummer as those may have been my best options. I am hoping to get on a UA flight but it is looking less likely as each day passes. Wish me luck as I may find myself spending as much on hotel rooms in SFO as I would have on a plane ticket if things don't work out. But I'm trying to stay hopeful.
