Well Hello again fellow travelers. OK here's my question, Does it pay to have a ZED ticket on hand just in case? If I'm flying into BKK (which almost stranded me last year) would a ZED pass help me get out any sooner? If so, How do they work? I am fairly new to the Non-rev stuff so just trying to build up my database on how to travel with the least amount of headaches.
On a side note to almost being stranded in BKK. I took the ferry from the Island of Koh Chang, the a mini bus to Bangkok. I arrived at about 6pm at the airport. Flight didn't board till 6:30 am. I wish I would have missed that flight so I could have slept a little. Reading some of your comments about sleep after a long flight, I wish I would plan better so I could. I am always so wiped out when I finally get to the Island.
Any help would be great. I Love this site. I've learned a lot so far. Thanks.

Even though DL told everybody not to non-rev ATL/LIM/ATL, we went ahead and did it. In ATL I bought passes on CO and AA as back-up...we were VERY lucky and had no problems, thank you 777-lr. I sent the passes for a refund to DL.

Skipper,
Your question is unclear as to what tickets you are holding versus ZED. If you ask me to choose, I'll choose full fare provided i'm not paying for it.
I'm assuming you are using your own airline's staff ticket/ID90 equivalent, then yes, having ZED may help BUUUUUUTTTTTT
Bear in mind a few things about Asia based airlines
1. Your ZED can only be used for the destination specified, they will not let you use it for any other destination even though the ticket price might be cheaper and to their benefit.
2. ZED does not mean you can go on any ZED carriers unless your airline has agreement with the other carrier. I once tried to fly UA from HKG using a ZED but they declined me as their agreement with my airline is ID90 !?!?! even though both airlines are ZED members.
So do a bit of research, especially check with your airline with whom your company has agreement with. (I now carry a list from my company that says which airline takes what type of ticket from us)
Also check what flights are going out of BKK that you can take (use the quicktrip site under the tools tab above)
Otherwise, good luck

<strike>(use the quicktrip site under the tools tab above)</strike> Found it, thanks.
Didn't find that for some reason.
Basically I'm trying to find out what my options are for not getting on. I am trying to get full fare up front or on top in the 744 to NRT. But I don't have the full fare money to buy it. So I wanted to know what other options I have if the flight I am listed on (non-rev) is full and I get bumped.
Hope I didn't confuse you. I confused myself half way through typing it.

ZED tickets are based on mileage and are accepted by all airlines you have an agreement with. You should check travelnet or ask your partner what the procedure is in terms of finding out who you have agreements with and how to get the tickets.
The good thing is they are refundable, so they are handy to have as a backup
EDIT - I should refresh before I post! Left this one open an hour and like 3 people had responded haha

OK I will ask the pass bureau tomorrow. I'll also see who we have agreements with.
Thanks again guys.

we're heading to Cairo next month and a good use of pre-purchased zeds for us will be:
Air France to CDG (around $100)
Royal Jordanian AMM ($65--half mileage half fees!)
and/or ID90 on Egyptair ATH (haven't priced them yet)
coach only and most are very strict
I'd rather have $4-500 Plan B/C tickets in my hand than NOT)
check your zed agreements first--buy each zed point to point
All are refundable within dates shown

I look at back ups this way - they are insurance and they are refundable. I always bring at least 1 back up ticket and a zed is just a bit more flexible than most. You truly have nothing to lose by buying a zed ticket so I say buy yourself a little insurance and peace of mind.

Thanks Guys you all are great!!!

UA is a ZED participant, but MH/UA do not have a bilateral ZED agreement.
It wasn't so long ago that our agreement was ID75.
Hopefully by the time you and I fly on each others' carriers, a ZED agreement will be in place http://www.nonrev.net/forums/style_e...#>/biggrin.gif
