I've flown US PHX-HNL-PHX before and had no issues. I was jumpseating and my wife was on an ID90 (before eZeds).

AA from DFW tends to be heavy with AA non-revs with a lot left behind depending on the time of year. AA has 2 HNL flights and an OGG flight which as mentioned earlier, you could take HA from OGG-HNL. Do you have any dates in mind?
